Activities at Oak Grange Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oak Grange Care Home

Monkeying around for World Animal Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Oak Grange care home in Mollington Grange were having a whale of a time when they celebrated World Animal Day in October.

World Animal Day is an annual global event to celebrate all animals across the world.  It aims to raise awareness of the importance of animal welfare and endeavours to raise standards for all animals around the globe.

Residents had a brilliant time learning about all different kinds of animals and their habitats, they watched nature programmes, had a visit from some therapy animals and held a quiz about the different collective nouns for animals some of which were downright bizarre!

Resident celebrates in style

Celebrations have been in full swing at Oak Grange Care Home, as one of its residents reached 80 years young in style.

Terrence King was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as he celebrated his birthday. Terry is such a much loved character within the home and in his honour a champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by Tracey Moretta, Head Baker at Its O’Cake.

Terry, said: “It was amazing being able to celebrate my birthday surrounded by friends and family”.

National Dog Day

Here at Oak Grange we love dogs and we marked National Dog Day in style.

We had fun reminiscing, looking at photos of our residents’ dogs from the past and we even created a picture board, to enable everyone to share memories of the dogs they owned.

Our local pet therapy organisation, Friends of Birkenhead Kennels visited us to make the day even more special with pet therapy dog, Ruby. Throughout the day we hosted a selection of dog themed activities from quizzes, name that breed and much more!

Notting Hill carnival Oak style!

Residents enjoyed a day of fun filled activities, Caribbean music and treats as they hosted their own Notting Hill carnival Oak style. The homes activities team danced the samba with them before welcoming, Ishtar a belly dancer who showed us some good moves and give us some belly dance lessons. It was a great day!

Unity wines and spirits virtual event

We had a lovely time joining Hospitality Manager, Christophe Noel and special guests Lee Isaacs DipWSET and Nick Parker from Unity Wines and Spirits – as they introduced us to wine tasting techniques, the history of wine and wine making, as well as consumer attitudes.

Our residents had the opportunity to try a variety of wines from sparkling and white to rose and red, alongside a selection of delicious treats.

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.

Games afternoon

Here at Oak Grange we enjoy a varied life enrichment programme to keep the mind, body and soul active. Each day there are popular group activities bringing everyone together along with individual Resident centred activities.

Residents enjoyed a fun filled afternoon with a friendly game of scrabble and ten pin bowling over a cup of tea and slice of homemade cake.
