Activities at Oak Grange Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Oak Grange Care Home

A little magic!

We had a lot of fun celebrating the life and works of Harry Houdini. His first performance was in 1903 and we looked at different magicians througout the decades and tried magic tricks of our own, before colouring some optical illusions and finally magic word scramble.

Burns supper

Oak Grange care home in Mollington prepared a traditional Burns Night Supper to the tune of bagpipes and the fun continued well into the wee small hours.

Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities designing their own tartans and taking a look at their family tartans, to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the haggis.

General Manager, Karen Fitzgerald, at Oak Grange thought it was a perfect occasion to celebrate an evening steeped in age-old tradition as well as getting in a spot of Scotch whisky tasting, reading a selection of Burns’ poems

International Flower Day

Today we celebrated International Flower Day in style, a great way in mid-winter to bring joy and happiness into the home. Our residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day including a flower arranging session, flower competition, planting snowdrops and hellebores, virtual tours to famous gardens all over the world on YouTube, a flower quiz which everyone really enjoyed.  The collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.  It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all.

The singing farmer

Music is such a powerful thing, lifting everyone’s mood and bringing back lots of memories.  The residents have had a fun afternoon singing and dancing with the #singing Farmer accompanied with afternoon tea prepared by our dedicated catering team.

Festive pet therapy

The concept of the Therapy Dogs was originally devised by Lesley Scott-Ordish back in 1976 when she discovered the trauma experienced by the elderly if forced to give up a much-loved pet upon going into residential care.  Lesley, using her own dogs to visit could immediately see the positive impact their presence was having on the emotional wellbeing of the residents. The therapeutic affects of patting a dog were impressive and with encouragement from the Royal College of Nursing, a network of volunteers with friendly dogs was set up.

Santa pays a visit

Today we had a special visitor at the home. Santa came to drop off some presents for the residents, who all liked having a chat with him and telling him what him what they would like for Christmas.
