Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Roni Paynter

Lead Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Roni and I am the Lead Activities coordinator here at Oak Grange, the wellbeing and happiness of each resident are at the forefront of everything we do, and I am committed to upholding these values as your activities coordinator.

Having worked in various care settings and possessing a passion for enhancing the lives of older adults. I bring a wealth of experience and creativity to the role. My primary objective is to create a vibrant and engaging activities programme that caters to the unique interests, abilities and preferences of each resident.

Together, we will embark on a journey of discovery, enjoyment and companionship. From engaging social events and group outings to stimulating cognitive exercises and creative pursuits, our goal is to ensure that there is always something for everyone to look forward to. Furthermore, I am here not only as an Activities coordinator but also as a friend and confidant, I encourage open communication, suggestions, and feedback from each resident and their families.

Blooming Haus

We were delighted to join Blooming Haus’s Christmas Wreath Making Masterclass, where Master Florist, Michal and his business partner - Michael showed us the best method to create beautiful festive wreaths.

Following the tips and ideas learnt during the amazing virtual experience, we were happy to put our skills to a test and to enter the #BarchesterChristmasWreaths competition.

We all had a wonderful time creating our festive wreath/s.

Thank you @bloominghaus for helping our residents flow into the true spirit of Noel.

Italian day

Residents at Oak Grange were treated to an amazing interpretation of John Hughes the ‘singing farmer’ along with a selection of delicious foods including pizza, wine and much more!

Music played an important feature of our themed Italian day to mark ‘World Pasta’ day, we celebrated in style! Residents helped with the making, decorating and of course tasting a variety of Italian flavours.

English National Ballet

We celebrated Remembrance Day with English National Ballet Associate Dance Artist, Richard Bermange, who led a creative dance workshop for our residents followed by a special extract of Akram Khan’s work Dust, premiered in 2014 as part of ENB’s Lest We Forget programme, commemorating the First World War.

ENB company dancers, Erina Takahashi and James Streeter performed the extract and provided some insight into this moving work.

Our residents had a wonderful time as they listened, danced and were able to singalong to famous war time music performed by ENB Associate Musician, Matt Hartley-Stevens.

Remembrance Day

Oak Grange Care Home in Mollington Grange commemorated Remembrance Day on Sunday 14 November. They joined the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at 11am.

As well as marking Remembrance Day by wearing poppies and watching the televised service from The Cenotaph, residents took part in therapeutic activities listening to old wartime songs, and reading war poems.

June, a resident at Oak Grange Care Home, said: “It is very important that we keep the memories of those who fought alive and that we also think about those involved in conflicts around the world today.”

Home shines bright for Diwali

Residents at Oak Grange Care Home in Mollington Grange had a brilliant day on Thursday 4th November as they marked the start of the Hindu festival of Diwali, popularly known as the ‘festival of lights’.

Residents helped with making colourful patterned rangoli and lighting ‘diyas’, small oil lamps which are lit to signify the triumph of good over evil. Diwali honours Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, the lamps help Lakshmi find her way into people’s homes.

Head chef Simon Burns prepared traditional Indian dishes including a range of warming curries, spicy samosas, crispy bhajis and poppadum’s with lime pickle and chutneys followed by traditional Indian sweets such as laddoo and barfi for the residents to enjoy. Activities Coordinator Claudia prepared special Sizzling Non-Alcoholic drinks including Cherry ginger Ice Tea, Pineapple Cobbler, Cucumber Mojito followed by traditional snacks to serve at the Diwali Party and we have been honoured by Rosie a lovely Bollywood dancer who show our residents some brilliant moves.

Vegetarian for life demo

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Halloween-inspired virtual cooking demo.

Alex demonstrated how to prepare a few themed dishes, such as root vegetable tagine, roasted butternut squash mac-n-cheese, chocolate pots with piped biscuits and flapjacks.

Our residents were delighted to be a part of this lovely virtual culinary session by tasting the vegetarian dishes from the comfort of our home.
