Activities at Newington Court Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator here at Newington Court constantly strives to mentally and physically stimulate those we support in our home. We have our own minibus enabling residents to go shopping, to the local garden centre, out for fish and chips, and for boat trips in the summer. We also have regular visits from the PAT dog, musicians and entertainers. We hold cheese and wine evenings for residents and their families and our residents attend services at the local school for Remembrance Day and Christmas. The junior school also come in and sing for our residents at Christmas. The residents also attended a Christmas Party held at a local Grammar School hosted by the students.

Jo English

Activities Coordinator

I joined Newington Court in September 2021. After working as a Carer in September 2022 I became the Lead Activities Co-coordinator. It is a pleasure to care for our residents and make sure that their needs are met to the highest standards. Every day is different but it is a very rewarding job and gives a great sense of satisfaction. I am looking forward to ensuring that our residents are getting an enriched lifestyle and by getting to know them on a one-to-one basis making sure that we cater to everyone’s needs and interests.

Life at Newington Court Care Home

Reminiscence

We have regular reminiscence therapy sessions at Newington Court. We look through books and magazines of eras gone by, or look through our memory boxes, a time capsule linking individuals or groups with items from the past. These sessions often spark group discussions when residents reflect on their lives and happy memories.

Oomph on Demand

At Newington Court we have access to the popular resource ‘Oomph on Demand’. With our tablets we are able to deliver this valuable resource to residents in their rooms. Activities include news, quizzes and musical entertainment.

National Carers Week

At Newington Court we like to celebrate National Carers Week. This year we created watercolour cards using an artwork template designed by our Activity Coordinator, and artist, Chloe. We later treated the carers to chocolates and presented them with their cards.

Gardening Club

We love to be outside at every opportunity. We have a gardening club and have been growing rosemary, thyme, busy lizzies, geraniums and sunflowers this year. Here we are planting out our sunflowers for our competition!

Knitting Natter Nora Club

When Chloe joined our Activities Team she started the Knitting Natter Nora Club on a Monday morning.  It’s a chance to catch up with friends and learn a new skill.  We have been knitting, crocheting, making pompoms and other crafts using wool. It’s a very social time for us which we very much look forward to.

Jubilee Celebrations

At Newington Court we like to observe special national and international days. In June we celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We decorated the home and garden with hand crafted decorations in red, white and blue. We had a party in the garden with family, friends and staff where we had live entertainment with Liam Joseph and later we joined the hula hooping demonstration in the beautiful sunshine. We enjoyed a feast of  coronation chicken sandwiches, strawberries and cream, scones and jam and a glass of Pimm’s! The kitchen staff made a beautiful celebration cake and we danced the evening away!
