Activities at Newington Court Care Home
Our Activities Coordinator here at Newington Court constantly strives to mentally and physically stimulate those we support in our home. We have our own minibus enabling residents to go shopping, to the local garden centre, out for fish and chips, and for boat trips in the summer. We also have regular visits from the PAT dog, musicians and entertainers. We hold cheese and wine evenings for residents and their families and our residents attend services at the local school for Remembrance Day and Christmas. The junior school also come in and sing for our residents at Christmas. The residents also attended a Christmas Party held at a local Grammar School hosted by the students.
Jo English
I joined Newington Court in September 2021. After working as a Carer in September 2022 I became the Lead Activities Co-coordinator. It is a pleasure to care for our residents and make sure that their needs are met to the highest standards. Every day is different but it is a very rewarding job and gives a great sense of satisfaction. I am looking forward to ensuring that our residents are getting an enriched lifestyle and by getting to know them on a one-to-one basis making sure that we cater to everyone’s needs and interests.

Life at Newington Court Care Home
River’s Rodents and Reptiles
At Newington Court we realise that animals are very therapeutic and like to invite animal encounter businesses in, periodically, so that residents can hold and see them. We can learn so much from the animal handlers about their habitat, food and habits too!
Cornerstone Café at St Mary’s Church
Residents are encouraged to keep up with their links to the community and we like to visit St Mary’s Church once a month for their Cornerstone Café. We enjoy tea and cakes and it gives us the chance to catch up with other members of the local community.
Supporting Demelza Children’s Hospice
Our Knitting Natter Nora Club love to knit and crochet on a Monday morning. Residents have been busy creating patchwork blankets, during the club, and have decided to kindly donate them to Demelza Children’s Hospice in Sittingbourne. Staff were thrilled when we arrived in the minibus to deliver them.
Sunflower Competition
This year, at our gardening club, we have been having a competition to grow the tallest sunflower. This was an activity that almost all residents could partake in. The sunflowers have not all bloomed, as yet, but are growing strong!
Summer BBQ Party
We often hold garden parties and in August we invited families to join us for a barbeque party. This year’s theme was 70’s psychedelic, disco. We made decorations at our craft clubs and hung balloons and banners around the garden. We had songs from the lovely Keely and Mason played his clarinet for us. Thanks to the catering staff, we dined on barbeque chicken, hot dogs, potato salad, coleslaw and eton mess. A fabulous time, dancing in the sunshine, was had by all!
Boat trip
We have been taking residents to Medway Wharf Marina for regular boat trips, throughout the summer, organised by the Kingfisher Trust. Their boat ‘Mark’ has been specially adapted for wheelchair users and gives the residents an opportunity to sail to and from Wateringbury taking in the sights, locks and wildlife along the way.
