Activities at Mortain Place Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Alex Leftley

Activities Coordinator

I was working in the print trade when a friend of mine became very unwell and I had to find a nursing home for her. Due to the dedication of the staff, my friend had another 18 months and I was able to take her out after being house bound for many years.

I felt that I wanted to do a job that made a difference and became a carer. I went back to school and redone my GCSE,s and then went onto do my level 3 diploma and am always enhancing my skills and knowledge. I came to Mortain Place as a senior carer on Normandy Gardens and worked my way up to Community Lead. I have chosen to move to the activities team to help support the life enrichment programme and help improve the life experience’s of our residents.

Flower arranging in the sun

Residents made the most of the lovely sunshine by making floral table decorations ready for Mothers Day lunch. We had many laughs while getting our hands dirty and the finished products looked wonderful.

Ducklings

We were very excited to take delivery of an incubator to the home which holds six duck eggs. The eggs are due to hatch on 25th March so residents will be monitoring their progress and are looking forward to welcoming some adorable ducklings into the world.

We have our paddling pool at the ready so they can have their first swim once they are ready.

Pets as Therapy visit

We were treated to a visit from Pets as Therapy who brought along with them a friendly goat and a box full of chicks for our residents to interact with. The cuteness overload was felt throughout the home with residents and staff not being able to resist these furry beauties.

We are very much looking to their next visit to see what friendly little souls they will bring with them.

Cheese and Wine tasting

Our residents really enjoyed a Cheese and Wine tasting session along with a cheesy quiz to get the them all thinking. After the Cheese and Wine the residents relaxed in front of a film. The perfect Saturday night.

Residents make daffodils for St Davids Day

We got creative in the build up to St Davids Day by making our own daffodils in preparation for tomorrows celebrations. There were lots of laughs, lots of cups of tea and an enthusiastic team to get the residents in the mood.

Coco the rabbit visits Mortain Place

Residents were thrilled to have a visit from Coco the rabbit this week. Coco made himself at home very quickly and was loving all the attention he received from our residents and team members.

A very busy morning for Coco getting around to meet all of our residents meant that after lunch, he was fast asleep and looked very contented.
