Activities at Meadow Park Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Meadow Park Care Home

Bubbles Pop of Meadow Park

A random act of kindness from a family members created a pop for residents and colleagues when a special delivery of 100 delicious fresh cream cakes  and 20-bottles of Buck’s Fizz were delivered to the home. Our residents have experienced little – and big – acts of kindness during the coronavirus pandemic, and are overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness shown during this challenging period.  As the sun shone, everyone sat down to enjoy the mouthwatering treats and washed down with a glass of bubbles.

Brewing up a Storm

Meadow Park hosted a virtual tea party to celebrate the Queen's birthday as they 'brewed up a storm' on April 21, which marked Queen Elizabeth's birthday, as well as National Tea Day.

Residents of the home joined in a number of virtual events held across the nation during the day with a selection of biscuits, cakes, and teas for the event.

In these unprecedented times, providing a range of engaging activities for our residents is more important than ever. Residents really enjoyed the choice of teas, cakes and events and, as a nation who truly loves their tea, it was great excuse for an afternoon brew and a natter.

A Kind Donation

Meadow Park recently presented local community group, Bedlington Network with an array of food parcels to benefit members of the community.

We welcomed Lindsey Jordan and Dan Wilkinson from the group to collect the bags of goodies, which staff from the home have donated to support those less fortunate in the community.

It’s amazing to receive such fantastic support from our residents and staff, and this will be a huge benefit to our community.

Rainbows for the Community

Residents of Meadow Park have been busy making rainbows, which they have displayed in windows across the home to add a little joy to those walking past the home. The idea is that members of community display rainbows in their windows so that children can go ‘rainbow spotting’ when out for their exercise with family.

The colourful displays are brightening up everyone’s day! The Facebook group has over 90,000 members and the home is delighted to be part of the community spirit.

Baking Session

Residents from Meadow Park enjoyed an afternoon of baking, which took them back to their younger years. Vicky Mallaburn, Home Manager, said: “The residents enjoy spending time in the kitchen, as it not only brings back memories of their childhood, but also times when they’ve baked with their own children and grandchildren. Once all the bakes were made, we all enjoyed sitting down with a cup of tea and a home-made cake.”

Residents Receive Messages of Kindness

To combat loneliness and isolation colleagues of Meadow Park reached out to the community as part of their extended social network to seek pen-pals of all ages reaching out to nurseries, schools and members of the community to remain connected during this difficult time.

Residents were delighted to receive colourful pictures and letters delivered to the home. Thank you for adding a little colour and sunshine to our resident’s day and for your heartfelt message.  One resident said “It was very touching to receive such nice letters from the children”, whilst another said “The pictures are lovely, bless them all”.

It is amazing how a simple letter, short story, poem or even a photo or drawing can brighten up someone’s day. The residents of Meadow Park will then reply as part of our social activity sessions. We are happy to receive letters, photos, etc. via the post, sent to directly to the home or you can email us at meadowpark@barchester.com.
