Activities at Marple Dale Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lewis Timperley

Activities Team Lead

Hi, my name is Lewis. I joined the team in September 2021 as a general assistant and then moved to the activities team in January 2022. Most recently I became Activities Team Leader in December 2023, it has been a great journey here at Marple Dale and can’t wait to continue. I love my role as one of the homes Activity Coordinators, and love finding out new and exciting ways to engage residents with activities and each other.

Here at Marple Dale we try to do as many different activities as we can, to keep our residents as active as possible, as it is so important to keep active. I love what I do and love knowing that our residents have so much enjoyment from such a wide variety of activities.

Trip to Lyme Park

On Thursday we went to Lyme Park for the day. We enjoyed going around the grounds and stopped off at the café to enjoy their homemade food which was delicious.   At the end of our trip when driving out from the grounds, we got a lovely surprise seeing the deer’s stood at the entrance of the park.

Edinburgh Botanical Garden

Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.

The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.

Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.

Live performance

Residents enjoy the voice of popular vocalist, Samantha Jones. This month we enjoyed having Samantha Jones performing live in our home. The residents love Samantha and all sing along to the songs from the 50’s 60’s & 70’s with her.

Autumn wreaths

Residents at Marple Dale enjoy their regular arts and craft sessions which allow them to be creative. This week they made their very own autumnal wreaths, the residents loved doing this and are looking forward to putting them up in our home. Don’t you love the rustic colours?

Painting workshop

We are enjoying the autumn time here at Marple Dale. Last week we painted autumnal themed pictures which Tracey and Beryl really enjoyed. Tracey was painting a lantern with a glowing flame and Beryl did autumn leaves falling from the trees.

Wallace Collection

Our homes had a fantastic time joining members of the Wallace Collection for an amazing sensory session.

During the live virtual experience, our residents explored one of the museum’s most beautiful Dutch flower paintings and learnt new drawing techniques.

We cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and produce beautiful paintings of our own.

Everyone enjoyed the lovely talk, we all had lots of fun and it’s given us plenty of ideas.
