What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"My mother has been in Marple Dale Care Home for 4 months, the care she has received has been amazing, the carers go above and beyond for my mother, she is treated with the upmost respect, my mind is settled knowing my mother is in Marple Dale and being looked after so well, as a family on the whole we are very grateful."

"My wife is very happy here now that she has settled down. The staff are very attentive to her needs and friendly. The food is not what she's used to because she is on a puree diet, but she is coping. Everyone here has gone that bit more caring for her and we are pleased with everything especially as I can visit her mostly all the time. Great, friendly, at-home feeling, all the time."

"My mother moved to your care home in July 2021 and after settling in developed quiet serious bed sores and weight loss due to staffing care problems in Autumn 2021. After meeting with the various care authorities, my mother's care was monitored and has improved remarkably. Her bed sores have healed, she has gained some weight and is encouraged to eat by the care staff. We are encouraged by the progress and grateful for the dedicated staff. We would however feel that to improve mother's wellbeing, we would like to see mother take part in some more activities wherever possible for her mental health."

"My mum has spent a long period of time in hospital, she desperately wanted to go home but an MDT (multidisciplinary team) meeting deemed this unsafe so she reluctantly was admitted to Marple Dale Care Home until a decision could be made about her returning to her own home. From the moment Mum arrived at Marple Dale, the whole team treated her like a member of their own family, she tells me she feels like a queen. The care provided is person-centred and my mum feels loved and safe, Mum has put on weight since her admission and enjoys the company of all the staff. Mum loves her room and the food, she likes Marple Dale so much that she now wants to stay as a permanent resident. I would like to say a huge thank you to the team for looking after my mum so well, it has really put my mind at rest knowing she is happy and receiving excellent care."

"My mum was bedbound in Marple Dale but the grounds and activities seemed really lovely. My mum was cared for very well indeed, checked every hour and repositioned every four hours. The staff were very friendly and kind. Mum was not there for long and on her final night I was supported with genuine care and kindness by the nursing team. My only very slight and inconsequential negative would be the furniture in the room was a little tired but the people were amazing and that's what counts."

"My friend has been a resident at Marple Dale Care Home for 2 years and he obviously well cared for. However, at 41 years he often tells me he wants to go back to his former life. The Dale provides activities and he does go out but he also has few visiting and isn't keen to join in with other residents so spends all his life in his room. His mother and I are going to try and get him out more but I wondered whether Barchester knew of organisations for stroke/head injury that would visit or could offer activities outside The Dale? I feel so helpless to help him."

"My dad had to move into Marple Dale following a fall at home. It was his decision, but I still thought he would be unhappy, to begin with. However, he settled in amazingly quickly. I have never heard a complaint from him. He especially loves the food and the activities. During the initial enquiry stage, the staff were helpful and friendly in guiding us through the process. One thing that impressed me at that time was that when I would telephone, someone always answered the phone quickly."

"My sister has been a resident here since March 2022. Since then, I have been impressed with the standard of care she receives and the professionalism of the staff. I have found everyone to be approachable, friendly, caring and responsive - nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation is lovely, and the gardens are spectacular. My sister thoroughly enjoys the activities offered, from scrabble afternoons to shopping trips, to a barge trip on a local canal. My sister reports that the food is good; there is always a choice of meals, and it is all homecooked too. I was apprehensive at first, but everything is better than I expected."

"My wife and I find it frustrating to arrange visits (Marple Dale Care Home). The process is too complicated through the head office (website) then through the home to arrange times. Our resident got a few visitors yet we find restrictions on visits. We are aware of the quirks during the pandemic but it is very sad that visits seem obstructive."

"My wife has been a resident at Marple Dale for nearly 4 years. She has always been given excellent care there. The staff are fantastic and there is a real family atmosphere with the other residents. My wife settled in quickly and is as happy as she can be. I am happy too because I have complete confidence that she is being looked after so well."

"My experience with this home has been good. Agency staff not quite as caring as regular staff. Transfer to get service users out and about is poor. The whole of the outside is shabby and needs a good painting, and some work over windows needs cleaning; this is evident when you drive up to the front of the building."

"I speak to my father by telephone almost every day and he has nothing but praise for the care home. They have worked hard to keep him safe and happy during very difficult times; restrictions are in place but the staff do their best to minimise the impact and to explain why things are being done in different ways. With the recent relaxation of visiting restrictions, I was able to see my father for the first time in four and a half months. Precautions against Covid-19 were in place but both effective and unobtrusive. It was good to see him and reassuring to know that he was in safe hands. A big thanks to all the staff."

"I have always found the home to be helpful, considerate and efficient in dealing with my brother's problems. I have never had any concern that he is not getting the best possible care. The care home and company have kept me totally informed on everything, even during these difficult times."

"I am very pleased with my experience at Marple Dale Care Home the staff are excellent and really make me feel as I can talk to them if I have got a problem they try to sort it out for me. If I have letters for appointments I give them to the nurse and they sort them out."

"Having not seen my mother for three months, due to Covid-19, I was very pleased to be told I could visit her last Tuesday. I was worried about how they would organise the visit to stop any infection being spread on. They did an excellent job. Our temperatures were taken, table, and chairs sanitised before we sat down and hand sanitizer provided. Can't praise them enough for their care, especially over the last few months for my mother, as she had Covid-19. Not bad enough to go to the hospital, but protection was in place to stop the spread. Excellent job."

"Generally, well run establishment with very friendly and helpful staff. The activities aspect is very impressive. On the security side, it is disconcerting to find that there is no one on duty on reception at weekends. It's evident that maintenance is sadly lacking with broken/leaking gutters, and external features desperately in need of a coat of paint."

"My son has been at Marple Dale since being discharged from hospital after having had a car accident in February 2014. His care at Marple Dale is second to none. The staff all treat him very, very well. As a mother, it is so good and comforting to see the love and care my son receives."

"Mum feels safe and mostly contented in her room. The staff are kind and some show affection to her. The staff, especially the activities staff encourage her to join in with activities but due to her fear of being hoisted and general anxiety of change, she is reluctant to do so. We are appreciative of all the care and attention she receives. It has been a great comfort to myself and my family to know that she is being well looked after."

"My mother is in the care home. Treated very well, taken on trips etc. Good food and care. However, it does not look good and seeing smokers on the path to the entrance lobby. Can you not mark an area available for smokers away from the entrance? I sometimes have to walk around them, through the smoke just to get in. Does not give a very good first impression of the home to visitors."

"My daughter has lived in this beautiful home for almost 9 years and is extremely happy there. She is very well looked after and cared for. The nursing and care staff are excellent. I have given management as good and not excellent as she is fairly new to the role. Activities need improving, they were once excellent, but not anymore."

"Over the time my father has been a resident he has settled in well. He has a lovely, comfortable room. He likes the meals most of the time. When I have asked him about care, he says staff are patient and kind. There is, on the whole, a very nice atmosphere at Barchester Marple Dale Care Centre."

"Generally feel that my mum is well looked after and cared for. The facilities are kept clean and maintained, though at times it takes a while for action to take place - eg, fix the windows. Not all staff take time with the residents, and it feels rushed - though don't see that as any individual's fault, just the process that needs to be managed."

"In general, my husband finds the staff helpful and is treated kindly by all day staff but does not always feel the same about night staff as more agency staff are used and they are not as good as the carers actually employed by Marple Dale."

"My mother was worried about going into a home. She was made most welcome by all the staff. Her care is excellent and she has even been out on some of the trips offered and thoroughly enjoyed herself. Food is excellent and so is the room she is in. Staff didn't just come in and do their routine stuff, they stay and have a chat with her as well."

"My Son has been a resident at Marple Dale for 2 1/2 years and during that time, has been completely dependent on all staff for all his bodily needs. The nursing and care he has received has been second to none. More recently, I have not been able to visit so often as I am sole carer for my, terminally ill husband, but it is so comforting to know that my son is being so well cared for. I would recommend Marple Dale to anyone and everyone as I have complete trust in them."

"My father has been a resident at home at Marple Dale for 4 years now and the care he receives is excellent. The staff are caring and friendly, you are welcomed as soon as you enter the building. The home is well run by the management and office staff. The activities are varied and trips out are often arranged for those able to go out. Our family feel that my father wouldn't be here now if he hadn't had such good care."

"I feel quite happy that my father is a resident at Marple Dale Care Centre. When you are looking around for a place for a loved one, you see different standards of bedrooms, social rooms, activities etc. Dad has a warm, comfortable room and en-suite. There are a number of lounges. He likes the food. The staff are very good. His personal care is good too. The nurses help. Health and medication matters are very good."

"After looking at a number of homes in the area for my wife we selected Marple Dale and have been very happy with all aspects of the care and environment at the home. The levels of nursing and care staff are excellent and when a request is made it is normally met within a very short period. The environment surrounding the home is very peaceful and pleasant."

"My wife has been a resident at Marple Dale nearly 4 months now. She settled in well and easily because of the welcoming and caring attitude of the staff. I know that she is happy and comfortable at Marple Dale and that takes a huge weight off my mind. My family and I are impressed with the management, the building and facilities are good. "My mum moved in around October 2016, she had been self-sufficient up until June. Mum's room is what impressed us at first, unlike all the other places we had seen, it was not just a 'box', looks like a mini apartment which is lovely and very homely. The building is set in its own grounds, really lovely, so from a visitors point of view, it does not make you feel depressed in any way. The staff are absolutely wonderful, they are always popping in to see how mum is, day and night, and have the time for a quick chat. It was very difficult for me to trust that anyone could do a better job of looking after mum than I have over the years but within a short length of time, they had all sussed mum out to a T and had gotten to know her just as well as I did. This is such a relief, so now when I visit mum I can sit, relax and chat and spent quality time with her rather than constantly worry about her. The family and I feel so lucky that we found and managed to get in here."

"Patient wise nursing treatment satisfactory - here I have to say nurses, carers work under much stress i.e. short staffed, equipment, i.e. hoist/batteries sometimes not available when need, reason: needs outweigh supply. Kitchen area requires an overlook with regards to hygiene i.e. bar surface needs renewing, dirty crockery should be removed more quickly. At all times kitchen area should be kept clean and tidy. Very important: all nurses and carers are wonderful. They need more help/manager wise."

"My mother-in-law has been here for 7 years approximately and has always been well looked after. The care staff have always been caring, helpful and willing to help. However, I feel that the number of staff should be increased due to the number of residents who require total care. As it always appears that the carers are always stretched."

"This home has undergone many changes in the last twelve months, half of the site has closed down leaving Windsor Suite and Clarence House as the only units. There have been many changes especially as so many staff have left, some staff are missed by both residents and family members, and it has been an upsetting time for all concerned. As well as staff from management to housekeeping and maintenance have been made redundant we have also lost our much loved Chaplin and so there is no in house pastoral care, much missed."

"Since coming to live at Marple Dale Care Centre for the nursing care my sister has been very well looked after. The staff are all kind and cheerful and respond to her needs well. They do take time to chat when time allows and help her with her intake of food at mealtimes. Lovely home cooking and delicious cakes and pastries. Small appetites do need lots of nurturing and my sister requires and receives this. Laundry now on track- great!"

"My wife suffered from 2 sever strokes and is peg fed- i.e unable to swallow or speak. She has been a resident at the care home since August 2014 and during this period she has been treated in an extremely caring manner- which is my main overall concern for her well being. I visit twice a day- every day and accordingly I see how the management team, ward manager and nursing staff work and I feel quite happy with the organisation in this respect. I am especially pleased how the carers treat my wife, with dignity primarily but also with kindness. My overall marking is of caring management team which reflects in the loving care she receives. I am genuinely pleased with the choice I made."
