Activities at Marple Dale Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lewis Timperley

Activities Team Lead

Hi, my name is Lewis. I joined the team in September 2021 as a general assistant and then moved to the activities team in January 2022. Most recently I became Activities Team Leader in December 2023, it has been a great journey here at Marple Dale and can’t wait to continue. I love my role as one of the homes Activity Coordinators, and love finding out new and exciting ways to engage residents with activities and each other.

Here at Marple Dale we try to do as many different activities as we can, to keep our residents as active as possible, as it is so important to keep active. I love what I do and love knowing that our residents have so much enjoyment from such a wide variety of activities.

Home receive vaccination

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Marple Dale care home, in Marple Dale, were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination at the home by Dr. Sunderland and Sarah Bentley from Marple Surgery, which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

General Manager, Anna Paule said: “Last year was a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

Residents show off their 'flower power'

Residents of Maple Dale showed off their ‘green fingers’ as part of the homes International Flower Day celebrations by making some colourful table centre-pieces to brighten the homes tables.  Resident, Betty said “she loved flower arranging and pottering in her garden” when she was at home and it was lovely to join in and it had really enjoyed getting involved in the activity.  Flower arranging is one of the many activities planned as part of the homes life enrichment programme.

Residents enjoy snow fun

As the first snow of the season fell around Marple Dale, some residents braved the cold snap to enjoy some fresh air and remarked how beautiful the grounds looked.   The snow fall also brought back memories as children enjoying the great outdoors and the thrill of sledging on any hills or slopes they could find nearby.  Once back in doors, everyone enjoyed a warming drink and a slice of home-made cake.

Gift from local school

On behalf of Age UK Stockport residents received gifts which were donated by Marple Hall High school.  The generous gift was letters and presents for each of the homes residents and care team.  The residents are very grateful and were delighted to receive and are busy preparing to write back when the school returns to class in the New Year.

Community Engagement

Children from Bowden Lane Nursery in Marple brought in Christmas pictures to our residents. We made a display for residents to look at over Christmas. The nursery asked us to pick out 3 pictures for the winners.

Christmas celebrations

Barchester’s Marple Dale got in the Christmas spirit by throwing a festive themed party for residents.

Marple Dale’s Christmas party was in full swing with fancy dress, festive foods, music and games. Residents enjoyed a feast of festive foods prepared by the home’s hospitality team.

General Manager, Anna Paule said: “We’ve had a year like no other so we wanted to really spoil our residents and give them an extra special treat.  We’ve all had such fun letting our hair down today, and it is clear that everyone really enjoyed the day.”
