Activities at Marple Dale Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lewis Timperley

Activities Team Lead

Hi, my name is Lewis. I joined the team in September 2021 as a general assistant and then moved to the activities team in January 2022. Most recently I became Activities Team Leader in December 2023, it has been a great journey here at Marple Dale and can’t wait to continue. I love my role as one of the homes Activity Coordinators, and love finding out new and exciting ways to engage residents with activities and each other.

Here at Marple Dale we try to do as many different activities as we can, to keep our residents as active as possible, as it is so important to keep active. I love what I do and love knowing that our residents have so much enjoyment from such a wide variety of activities.

Bird watching in the garden

Residents at Marple Dale have enjoyed an afternoon of bird watching in the homes extensive grounds.

Residents have been making feeders for the birds and they spent the day enjoying the beauty of nature and watching as the birds enjoyed their snacks out in the garden.

One Resident commented: “I like to see and feed the birds. Aren’t they beautiful?”

As well as feeding and watching the local birds, the Residents took part in plenty of crafts sessions. They were able to paint pictures, and even made their own birds out of tissue paper.

Mad Hatter's Tea Party

Residents at Marple Dale care home in Marple recently held a ‘Mad Hatter’s’ tea party. Staff dressed up as characters from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, while residents swapped stories of school dances, tea parties, and of reading the book for the first time.

The homes hospitality team created some scrumptious sandwiches, cakes and scones served on a traditional three-tier cake stands and tea was served in china cups. It was a great afternoon!

Virtual trip to city of love for Valentines

Love was in the air for residents at Marple Dale on Valentine’s Day as we took a virtual tour to the city of love, Paris taking in the sights and enjoying delicious mouth-watering croissants for breakfast before spreading the love in our baking session, making heart-shaped biscuits to enjoy with our tea.  Throughout the day residents shared experiences of the most romantic gestures received, favourite love songs to much more.  It was a wonderful day!

St Patrick's Day

Residents and staff at Marple Dale celebrated all things Irish for St Patrick’s Day this week. The home was decorated with shamrocks and everyone got dressed up in green to mark the day.

Held on March 17th, Saint Patrick's Day actually observes the death of St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, but the day has come to be a huge celebration of Irish heritage and culture.

Home celebrates Chinese New Year

Staff and residents at Marple Dale welcomed in the Year of the Ox with a day of celebrations and activities.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, lucky red envelopes were exchanged and the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns. Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year.  Head chef cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food washed down with pots of Chinese tea.

One resident said: “I loved the music, the vibrant costumes and learning about the Chinese Zodiac animal traits. A person born in the Year of the Ox is strong, reliable, fair and conscientious.  I find it fascinating to learn all about different traditions.”

Sensory games

Residents have enjoyed a sensory session which involves a touch and match board, each counter of the board has a different textured top surface and residents have to match the tops – a smooth surface with another smooth surface – this is a very good game to support with their fine motor skills.  As part of the homes life enrichment programme we provide a variety of activities to help stimulate the mind, body and soul.
