Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

,

Little Jacks Farm

Residents requested to go on a trip to the farm, so that’s what we did. We went to Little Jacks Farm and Garden Centre for the  morning. The sun was shining and it was a lovely day. Resident Margret told us how she loves horse and they are her favourite animal. We finished the morning off in the cafe with a cup of tea and slice of cake.

Housekeeping Week

Since 1981 we have celebrated Housekeepers Week, it is about showing appreciation to housekeepers for their hard work. The Housekeeping team at Maple Leaf received a certificate and present to say thank you for everything they do.

,

Book lovers day

This morning our keen reader Sonia took a trip to Grantham Library to view all the different books and pick one to take back to the home. While we were out residents on Memory lane made some bookmarks with paint and the pattern from the leaves.

,

International dog day

What a perfect excuse to have a fury visitor! Milo came to visit Maple Leaf. He ran outside and received treats from residents. Resident Pat told us she loves dog and told us all about her past dogs.

Happy Birthday!

Barbara celebrated her 100th birthday with an afternoon tea with staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she received a card from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday. Barbara has always admired the Queen and receiving this card meant a lot to her.

Strawberry picking

It is estimated that approximately 10,000l of cream and 28,000kg of strawberries are consumed at Wimbledon each year. With this in mind we took to the strawberry fields this morning to pick some delicious strawberries. With our strawberries we are planning on making some ice cream, milkshakes and enjoy them with cream. As Winnie and Ivy were walking around the field they remembered the song by the Beatles “strawberry fields forever” and sang it while we were going round.
