Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Courtney Doncaster

Activities Coordinator

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.

Coronation celebrations

Maple Leaf celebrated the Kings Coronation in style. With music from the wonderful Steve Carmel.

Cakes were made by our wonderful laundry assistant Kayleigh and BBQ food prepared by the kitchen team.

Residents were up dancing, singing and laughing. The day was enjoyed by all. It was amazing to see so many of our amazing residents, families and staff join in the fun together!

A big Thankyou to everyone who came and supported our event!

Coronation virtual talk

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

International Firefighters Day

Residents and staff at Maple Leaf Lodge care home in Grantham honoured their local firefighters by inviting them into the home for a breakfast. The kitchen team made a delicious breakfast for them to enjoy, along with tea, coffe and fresh juice. Our wonderful friends from Dancing Daffodil childminders also came to visit, where the firefighters showed them around the fire engine and all the equipment they had. Maple Leaf Lodge would like to thank the firefighters stationed there for their selfless service keeping the community safe.

Competition winner

A big well done to Ali who won our Easter colouring competition judged by our residents! Residents loved the variety of colours used and how neat it was! Thank you to everyone else who entered!

Gentlemen’s club

Yesterday we took full advantage of the sun shining and went down to the pub and enjoyed a cold pint of bitter. Resident Brian told us how he can remember going down to the pub with his dad watching him drink as he wasn't old enough to have one himself.

Our gentlemen’s club allows men to feel more confident and having a few drinks and reminiscing about past working occupations, cars, time spent in the forces, chat about the weekly news, how times have changed, the subjects are endless. It’s nice just to let them spend their special men’s only time together.

Easter Celebrations

Throughout Easter we have done a selection of things at Maple Leaf. Making Easter cards, Easter baking and Easter egg hunts with a local school. Resident Joan volunteered to lick the spoon after!

We drew the winners of our Easter raffle! A big Thank you to everyone who bought tickets and well done to everyone who won.
