Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Courtney Doncaster

Activities Coordinator

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

,

Gentleman's Club

Todays gentlemen’s club took us to the Dirty Duck. Residents enjoyed an afternoon at the pub. With resident Anne as our supervisor. Residents enjoyed reminiscing about all the different pubs in Grantham and how many are still open now. It was a lovely afternoon out enjoyed by all.

,

Mothers Day

Mother’s Day is a day to show love, gratitude and appreciation to all the wonderful mums and caregivers everywhere.

Residents and staff were spoilt with flowers, a selection of cakes and afternoon tea. While we were down in the cafe we sang a selection of songs. Resident Ivy told us how she once gave her son a sixpence and then he began singing the song “I’ve got a sixpence” and it became his favourite song to sing.

St. Patrick's Day Celebrations

St Patrick’s day is a special day of fun, celebration and luck! Every year on March 17th people across the world come together to honour the patron Saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick.

Residents wore their best accessories, nails painted green, listened and watch Irish dancing, made a Guinness cake and of course drank a cold pint of Guinness.

Resident Vera is from Ireland and we enjoyed learning facts and singing songs from where she is from.

Sensory story telling

Across our services, our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

The Arctic Airship Italia

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Love is in the Air

Maple Leaf had a full day of celebrations yesterday for Valentine's Day!

Resident Ron volunteered to deliver roses and chocolates to all staff members. Staff members said how sweet it was and it made their day! Activities coordinator Courtney delivered a poem to all residents while wearing her love heart pyjamas.

In the afternoon residents were treated to a live virtual event of feel good singing of two wonderful songs; love is in the air and all you need is love! This was followed by an evening of wonderful entertainment from the fabulous Nicky Reader and Neil. Fun was had by all, sharing love and laughter!
