Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Life at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Introducing New Roles for Familiar Faces

Llys-Y Tywysog are delighted to announce that Michelle Bowen has been appointed as the new General Manager to head up the team.

Michelle has worked at Llys-Y-Tywysog for 20 years in June this year, having worked as a carer, senior carer progressing to Deputy Manager in 2019 prior to starting in this position.  In addition to Michelle’s promotion, Carole-Ann Burt, has been promoted to Deputy Manager.  Carole-Ann has worked at Llys-Y-Tywysog for 10 years, like Michelle progressing from Carer to Unit Manager and now the Deputy Manager.

It is not unusual to have a Management team with 30 years experience, but with that length of experience in the same home is, both have said it what a privilege it is to have worked at Llys-Y-Tywysog for so many years.

Giant Jenga a hit!

Giant Jenga was a great success, the residents really enjoyed this traditional game in this enlarged version. Great fun was had by all and we will definitely be playing it again soon!  Activities including puzzle games such as Jenga are important for the health and wellbeing of our residents, increasing physical and social interactions.

Baking a Traditional Favorite

Llys-Y-Tywysog residents love baking and this great team made jam tarts.  Such a traditional treat we all remember having as children, but we all agreed we had forgotten just how nice they are and whilst we baked plenty they didn't last long!  Llys-Y-Tywysog offer a varied activities and event program as part of Barchester's Life Enrichment program.

Visitor Smiles

Family visits always make us all smile, it is so special when grandchildren come to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  Our visitor pod has enabled families to see each other even throughout the latest restrictions.  Barchester's online booking system also means visits are quick and easy to book.

Thank You Cake

The family of a former resident have dropped in this beautiful cake to thank the staff for the care they provided.  The team are very grateful for this kind gesture, everyone loves working at Llys-Y-Tywysog and such a kind act of appreciation is so thoughtful.

Jigsaw Crafts

When we think of jigsaws and what we do with them most us would think only of creating the puzzle.  The imaginative activities team at Llys-Y-Tywysog certainly have thought outside of the box by working with the residents to create beautiful pictures.
