Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Life at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Home celebrate Holy Week

Leeming Bar Grange care home, in Leeming Bar has spent the week marking Holy Week  from 10th – 16th April as part of their countdown to Easter celebrations.  Staff and residents commemorated the week with a Palm Sunday virtual church service, Maundy Thursday poetry, and an abundance of creative expression throughout the week. In keeping with the spirt of Easter the home also arranged a community Easter Egg hunt for the local children.

General Manager, Michelle Keep of Leeming Bar Grange said: “Holy week is a significant period of the year for many of our residents and staff so it’s important that our life enrichment programme honours these occasions. We have had a great time marking the week with everyone getting involved in a way that is most meaningful to them.

The Astor's at Cliveden

Our residents came together to enjoy an exciting virtual talk courtesy of the team at National Trust Talks Service.  The illustrated talk took us closer to one of Cliveden’s most famous families, the Astors. Our residents were able to discover what motivated William Waldorf Astor, America’s richest man, to purchase Cliveden in 1893 and how the estate became the centre of high society in the 1920 s and 30 s thanks to his son Waldorf and daughter in law Nancy Astor.

The Collection

We had a lovely time joining Holly and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to the Collection, followed by a sensory exploratory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.   The Collection ranges from Old Master paintings to 18th century French furniture, arms and armour.  We all had a wonderful time and cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and paint some landscapes in the upcoming days.

Red Noses at the ready

Staff and residents at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home in Leeming Bar have taken part in a sponsored 10 hour danceathon to raise money for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day on March 18th.

Staff and residents at the home donned their red noses and got stuck in to help raise funds for this very important cause. Residents and staff twirled, hopped, skipped, bounced, swayed, clapped, waltzed, boogied, shimmied, and bopped the whole day through to complete a very impressive 10 hour danceathon! Residents and staff love to express themselves through music so what better way to help others than by creating joy in the home!

Comic Relief spends the money raised by Red Nose Day to help people living tough lives across the UK and internationally. Since its launch in 1988, Red Nose Day has become a British institution when people across the country get together to raise money at their home, school and work, accompanied by an exciting night of TV on the BBC, full of comedy and entertainment to inspire the nation to give generously

Starry night at Leeming Bar

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Leeming Bar Grange care home in Leeming Bar got creative celebrating the birthday of one of the greatest post-impressionist artists of all time, Vincent Van Gogh, on 30 March. Van Gogh was born in 1853 Groot-Zundert in the Netherlands and he created some of the most famous paintings in the world.

A prolific artist, Van Gogh’s work was notable for its beauty, emotion and colour.  His paintings have been hugely influential since his death, however during his lifetime Van Gogh struggled with poor mental health, he was virtually unknown and remained poor.  He completed more than 2,100 works consisting of 860 oil paintings and more than 1,300 watercolours, drawings and sketches.
