Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Carnival comes to Leeming

Staff and residents at Leeming Bar Grange care home in Leeming Bar, have decorated their home and garden to re-create the atmosphere of the Notting Hill Carnival this August.  Staff and residents have had a fantastic time experiencing all the Caribbean flavours of the carnival from street food to cocktails and steelband music, there has been a real carnival vibe at the home.

The Notting Hill Carnival is an annual Caribbean festival featuring sound systems and parade bands that has taken place since the mid 1960s on the streets of London around Notting Hill and Ladbroke Grove.  The carnival has been absent for over two years and so residents wanted to celebrate its return in style by bringing the carnival to Leeming Bar.

Music through the ages

Our homes had a brilliant time with curator Sarah Deters as she took us on a virtual ‘Music Through the Ages’ tour of St Cecilia’s Hall: Concert Room and Music Museum.

Our residents were thrilled to discover weird and wonderful musical instruments, hear their unusual sounds, and find out how instruments have changed over the last 500 years.

The virtual live event explored the world-renown collection of musical instruments on display at St Cecilia’s Hall, Scotland’s oldest concert hall.

Summer Fete brings community together

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Leeming Bar Grange to enjoy a Summer Fete that was held in the home’s grounds on 30th July 2022.

Leeming Bar Grange brought the coast to Leeming Bar with a day filled with traditional seaside activities including sandcastle building, live musical entertainment, tombola, hook-a-duck, bouncy castle and a visit from Sunshine the miniature pony from KL Pony Therapy. The day also saw new experiences with 92 year old resident Audrey having her first ever bounce on a bouncy castle!

Opera delight

Our homes had a fabulous time with the talented soprano Astrid Joos from Street Theatre.  Astrid spoke about a selection of famous operas and our residents were treated to performances of wonderful arias from operas well-known to all, such as ‘Giuditta’, ‘Don Giovanni’ and ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’.

It was a lovely experience, truly enjoyed by all.

Virtual event with Dr Tim Howard

Residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Dr Tim Howard, 4th generation GP, whose whole life has been about patient care, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his novel ‘Let’s Kill All The Lawyers’.

The novel is a medical fiction thriller that explores the impact of life and death events, mistakes and forgiveness, and the impact of law and justice on the day- to-day lives of ordinary people doing their best in difficult circumstances.

Residents had the chance to ask their own questions once the discussion was over and a great time was had by all.
