Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Life at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Children in Need

Residents & staff at Leeming Bar Grange in Leeming Bar held their own pyjama party to raise money for Children in Need.  Taking place this year on Friday 18 November, Children in Need raises money to help support local charities and projects which are providing essential frontline help to children and young people in communities throughout the UK.

Residents & the team supported this fantastic cause by donning their comfy cosy PJs to dance & sing to their hearts content at the homes karaoke party. Along with playing fun games from ‘Bear Pong’, Pudsey bowling, and delicious homemade refreshments.

Bewitching tricks and spooky treats

Barchester’s Leeming Bar Grange care home, in Leeming Bar was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween silent disco got in to full swing.  Residents and staff got in to the spirit of things by baking devilishly delicious homemade cakes & designing Halloween decorations to create a spooktacular atmosphere for their silent disco. A favourite of the home; DJ Pete Goldup, came along to host a ghoulishly great Halloween themed afternoon of hits! Residents, loved ones & the team donned their witches hats & capes to dance away to the likes of The Monster Mash & The Time Warp!

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We had a latte fun at our Macmillan Coffee Morning in September!   Residents, loved ones & the team enjoyed a vintage style coffee morning filled with an array of delicious homemade bakes! Having a coffee morning is the perfect chance to catch up over a cuppa and a slice of something delicious for a great cause.

The money raised helps everyone with cancer to live life as fully as they can. Thank you to all who came along to support this fantastic cause! The morning was a great success with £111.89p being raised!

Oktoberfest

With steins at the ready residents enjoyed a Bavarian feast of tasty delights such as bratwurst, frankfurters, frikadellen, sauerkraut, homemade apple strudel cake, and of course a beer or two!   As residents tucked into their feast accordionist Alan Chandler played some upbeat ditties to get everyone dancing and singing along! It's safe to say everyone slept very well after the fun-filled day!

Place your bets!

Residents recently enjoyed a trip out to Thirsk Racecourse!   Residents enjoyed a traditional British picnic, including sandwiches galore, scotch eggs, sausage rolls, homemade Oreo brownies, and prosecco to toast their wins! Residents reminisced fondly over race days, owning horses, and for others they enjoyed their first ever day at the races!   A big thank you to all who made the day possible, especially team leader Tracey who makes the BEST brownies!

History of Botanical garden

Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.

The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.

Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.
