Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Elf Day!

In December we celebrated Elf Day with lots of elfy shenanigans to raise awareness & funds for Alzheimer's Society Pete Goldup - The Silent Disco DJ was back by popular demand with a yuletide silent disco!

As you can see we had no 'ELF-control when it came to letting the festive music take over & busting out some dance moves! Following all the fancy footwork we were treated to deliciously decadent elfy cupcakes homemade by mischievous little kitchen elf; Karen. A great ELF-fort was made by all!

Oh What Fun it is to Ride!

Residents had the most magical day taking a virtual reality sleigh ride right across the world!

With headsets on the sleigh set off into the sky; flying above London, New York, magical forests, and even into space! The fully immersive experience had the wind blowing through residents hair and the sleigh following the movements of the twists & turns! As one resident commented with awe "that was spectacular!"

The day was made even more magical as today is one of our lovely ladies birthdays and other of our ladies on the trip turned 90 this week! The day was filled with celebrations as we explored the fantastic Dorman Museum & then ventured to a local restaurant for a delicious lunch!

We would like to say a huge thank you to all at the Dorman Museum for the incredible experience & fantastic customer service! We can't wait to return!

Cookies & Coco

Our festive celebrations saw residents & the team enjoy an indulgent array of hot chocolate & cookies!

There was something to suit all tastes from mince pie, chocolate & caramel, ginger, oat & raisin cookies to classic butter shortbread

It must be said however that head chef Toni's classic homemade chocolate chip cookies were the cream of the crop!

Brrrr-illiant Baking!

During the festive period residents partook in some delicious creativity! In keeping with our Winter Wonderland theme this year residents created a beautiful snowscape to enter into the annual Barchester cake decorating competition to be in with a chance of winning a prize!

It's snow secret that our residents are absolutely brrrr-illiant! I'm sure you will agree our residents did a fantastically festive job!

Christingle Service

We were very lucky to have been treated to our own little Christingle service led by St Gregory's Michelle Dearlove.

Michelle guided the residents in making their Christingles whilst discussing the significance of each aspect; bringing back many memories of Christmas time for residents.

A huge thank you to Michelle once again for bringing joy to our residents.

A virtual trip to Donkey Sanctuary

Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester.  Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care.  They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
