Activities at Laurel Bank Care Home

Activities are a fundamental part of a rich and varied lifestyle here at Laurel Bank Care Home, which is why we organise both physically and mentally stimulating social events for those we support. The weekly itinerary is ever-changing, and regularly includes art lessons, chair-based exercise, trips and visits from a variety of different animals, as well as one-to-one time for residents who prefer the peace and quiet. Our team actively tries to incorporate the hobbies and interests that are meaningful to residents into the activities schedule as encouragement to continue with much-loved pastimes.

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Jaimy Lee, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Laurel Bank.

I have worked in the care home industry for over nine years. I started working at Laurel Bank in 2018 as a carer, and then, I was promoted to senior carer which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I moved over to activities in 2020, as I was asked to help out and help encourage residents to join in. During this, I realised how much fun it could be and chose to stay on and got promoted to Activities Coordinator.

I love my role as every day is different and I try to make sure the residents are happy and engage in meaningful activities, this also helps support the transition for new residents.

Creating posies with florist

Our homes had a lovely time joining Sue and Nicole from Ferndown Florist for an intriguing flower arrangement workshop in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful virtual demonstration and got inspired to create their own flower posies for our Jubilee displays. Our home will be specially decorated for the upcoming festivities. Stay tuned.

Jubilee celebrations

Excitement has been running high at Laurel Bank in Lancaster where residents and staff have been busy making Jubilee-themed decorations and baking up a storm of lemon tarts, flapjacks, shortbread and our majestic crown jubilee pudding with the help of head chef Grant Prichard in preparation for the Jubilee.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a Queen. Over the bank holiday weekend the home held a wonderful Jubilee party, with entertainer Boogie Bill and also had a visit from royalty, ponies Maisie and Azzy, who were dressed up as our queen and her corgi! The whole home came together to celebrate our longest reigning monarch and reminisce about what she means to each and every one of us.

We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.

Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.

World Cocktail Day

Today is world cocktail day! So residents at Laurel Bank made their own! They made a cranberry orange sparkler cocktail and a sweet sunrise mocktail! They were very proud of their cocktails! It’s been a lovely afternoon!

Home honour Nursing team

Coinciding with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, International Nurses Day, held on Thursday 12th May, is a day to celebrate nurses and care staff around the world. Residents and staff at Laurel Bank care home in Lancaster, were happy to get involved, they made all the Nurses handmade cards and made sweet bags. They were handed their own personal bags full of goodies and given treat throughout the day.

In 2022, the International Council of Nurses is seeking to focus on the need to protect, support and invest in the nursing profession to strengthen health systems around the world. International Nurses’ Day is a day to give thanks for the dedication of care givers everywhere, who go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver extraordinary care and support.
