Activities at Lancaster Grange Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

We’ve had fun, laughter and suspicion this afternoon at Lancaster Grange. Cherilyn our Activities Lead hosted as Agatha, a ‘Murder at Sea’ Murder Mystery afternoon.

Residents took leading character roles, from Lady Philippa Grange, The Philanthropist Sir Lancaster, Johnny Trump the Gambler ‘Silver Dollar’, the Philosopher Professor Hawkins, Ship Mates, Ships Cook Mrs Gourmet, Betsy the Ladies Maid, Grimmes the Ships Janitor and Activities Wanda played Lola the Showgirl.

The characters came alive with role play, questioning and improv.

No one guessed it was Betsy!!!

RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch

Unfortunately it was too cold to go outdoors this afternoon at Lancaster Grange, so we had just as much fun ‘Bird Watching’ on the big screen. We identified the different British birds, using guide books, sensory garden spray enhanced our senses and RSPB soft birds. Our resident Joan shared her story of ‘Goldie’ a Goldfinch fledgling that she hand reared, and lived for 14 years in her spare bedroom.

Starlings virtual talk

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
