Activities at Lancaster Grange Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Great British flower week at Lancaster Grange

As part of the ‘Great British Flower’ week we welcomed Fiona of Daisy Works to Lancaster Grange this afternoon.

Fiona gave a brilliant and interesting talk about her flower farm at Syerston, how she started, the work and dedication she has for growing her flowers.

Residents marvelled at the glorious colours, textures and scents, as Fiona said ‘flowers can bring so many memories’.

Smelling flowers can take you straight back to a memory of someone in your life.

Flowers can remind you of your mother.

Flowers can remind you of your childhood, or a place you used to live or a relationship that you had.

We would like to once again thank Fiona for a superb afternoon.

Historic Hendon

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.

Story telling with Jon Sleigh

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.

Community trips to Bakers Sixty Two café

We took advantage of the beautiful spring morning here at Lancaster Grange, taking our homes mini bus for a scenic countryside drive.

Visiting local villages we happily stopped for coffee and cake at Baker's at Sixty-two, a friendly local tea shop in the neighbouring village of Long Bennington. Our residents were warmly welcomed and enjoyed sampling their home baked cakes.

Dementia friendly Café

This morning at Lancaster Grange, we held our dementia friendly coffee morning. Our residents came together for a social morning of different games, reminiscence from Oomph Wellness and meaningful conversations with visitors to Lancaster Grange.

We hold this coffee morning on the last Thursday of each month and welcome family, friends and our local community to join us.

This month our residents spent the morning in our community coffee shop, building new friendships and connecting with one another.

Social interaction is a huge part of our residents daily lives here at Lancaster Grange. Our purpose of social interaction is to enable our residents to express themselves by forming friendships within their home, boosting daily emotional and esteem needs.

Coronation Flower Arranging

This afternoon here at Lancaster Grange our Coffee shop was a hive of activity, in preparation for the Kings Coronation  celebrations.

Ladies of Sherwood Community came together making sensory flower arrangements for table decorations.

Ros helped collect a variety of foliage from the garden, while other residents arranged Roses, Chrysanthemums  and Spray Carnations.

A lovely sensory activity here at Lancaster Grange.
