Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Everson

Activities Coordinator & Speak Up Champion

I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.

I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day.  I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Barchester Care Awards Team Of The Year - South Division

Hurstwood View Care Home in Five Ashdown has been crowned Team Of The Year for the South Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2024 and is through to the national round of judging.

As the winner for South Division, Hurstwood View is through to the national finals in which the overall winner is decided.  They will join winners from across the UK at a special awards event in October to celebrate their outstanding achievements and discover if they have won a national award.

General Manager, Kirsty, said: “This is an amazing achievement and the whole home is so excited to be awarded this year’s winners for the South. I am so proud of everyone. We are a brilliant team who work well together to enrich the lives of our residents and support each other. Our values at Hurstwood View are a whole home approach and the team here really go above and beyond to create this.”

National Flower Week

We’ve been making the most of the weather this week, and been out in the garden at any given opportunity!

On Tuesday we set up an area in the shade, and planted some beautiful pots of Petunia’s. Residents loved separating the flowers and planting them in their lovely new homes. We attached some Hurstwood View tags, and our team will be gifting these when they are out in the community this week.

We also spent time creating some pretty posies for rooms. Carefully arranging our flowers into oasis, the Residents have made some beautiful displays for themselves and their friends

Summer Party Spectacular!

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Hurstwood View Care Home to enjoy a Summer Party that was held in the home’s grounds on 22nd June.

The party had live entertainment from Elvis, who sang a selection of his most popular songs. Head Chef, Karen made a wonderful buffet whilst Chef, Suman, was in charge of the bar where he created some fantastic cocktails which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event.

Competition Time At Hurstwood View

We had lots of fun with our staff pet competition this afternoon.

In true Hurstwood style, there was nothing ordinary about our entries, which even included sheep and cows!

Our Residents had so much fun choosing their favourite pet from our board, and adding their vote. After all of our Residents and staff had voted, we were pleased to announce our winners.

Get Barchester Moving

‘Get Barchester Moving’ is a Foundation Week initiative encouraging a week of physical activity in our homes. This is set to include our team, residents, relatives and whole home community here at Hurstwood View.

Today we kicked off the week with a wonderful seated yoga session run by Suzi Tait. Suzi guided us through 45 minutes of gentle stretching, breath work and relaxation.

Residents loved following, and Suzi offered some wonderful alternatives to ensure we were inclusive to all abilities.

We made sure to rehydrate afterwards, with some fresh fruit smoothies served by our wonderful Chef, Suman.

Weekly Visits From Albie The Dog

Our Friday morning visits from our Pets As Therapy dog, Albie, always bring so many smiles to our Residents faces.

Albie always becomes a great talking point, and the option for Residents to reminisce about their own pets over the years.

It’s been so lovely to see our Residents building a relationship with Albie, and his owner Vickie - he’s now a firm favourite on our planner.
