Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Everson

Activities Coordinator & Speak Up Champion

I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.

I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day.  I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Life at Hurstwood View Care Home

Summer has arrived at Hurstwood View!

We have been making the most of our beautiful gardens, and our new terrace area on Memory Lane the past week. Residents enjoyed coffee and croissants in the sunshine, as well as helping plant and tend to our beautiful new potted flowers. Weather permitting, we are planning on spending lots of time in our wonderful gardens throughout the summer months.

Coronation Celebrations at Hurstwood View

We had a lovely afternoon celebrating the King’s Coronation on Bank Holiday Monday here at Hurstwood View. A huge thank you to all our wonderful residents and their families who made it so special. We were joined by live singer, Clare, who kept us entertained all afternoon. Our Chef, Adam, also made a huge selection of scones and cupcakes, washed down with Pimms and Prosecco!

Our New Lunch Club!

We have lots of residents here at Hurstwood View who love to socialise!

With this in mind, we have started a Lunch Club where we invite ten different residents each month. Some join from our Memory Lane community, and others from Ashdown Walk. This private dining opportunity is such a wonderful way for our residents to socialise on a smaller scale, and make some lovely new friendships.

This month, we spent the morning making a delicious prawn cocktail for our starter, as well as a banoffee pie for dessert. Our wonderful Kitchen team served roast pork for the main, and our diners enjoyed some chilled fizz, as well as coffee and mints after. We will keep you posted on what we have planned for next month!

Mother’s Day 2023

We had a lovely afternoon the Thursday before Mother’s Day making some beautiful displays for our Café area. We also arranged lots of vases, and residents chose where to place these around the home. Flower arranging is such a lovely activity, and is always so popular within the home.

International Women's Day

We had a lovely afternoon in our Café celebrating International Women’s Day.

The Gin & Tonics were flowing, as was the Prosecco and Wine.

Residents also enjoyed cakes, chocolates, and some lovely cheesecakes made by our Kitchen team.

It was a really lovely afternoon with lots of music and great company. Thanks Ladies, we think we should do this every week!

Art Therapy

Tuesday’s are for art and creativity..

We are very lucky to have such wonderful volunteers here at Hurstwood View.

Yesterday, we welcomed in a volunteer who hosted a small art therapy session.

Residents who have a specific interest in art enjoyed sketching, then painting in watercolour the fruit and vegetable scene which was set out in front of them.

We got some wonderful pieces, and it was such a calm, creative and relaxing session.
