Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Everson
I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.
I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day. I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Hurstwood View Care Home

Barchester's Beat The Clock!
We had loads of fun this afternoon playing ‘Barchester’s Beat The Clock’.
Each of the Barchester's home's gets a team together and we then compete against each other for the winning title.
We were challenged with a selection of word and maths puzzles, followed by a conundrum at the end!
It was surprisingly tricky, and the timescale added to the pressure! Things were certainly getting very competitive in the Cafe this afternoon, but everyone had great fun working together as a team.

Breakfast Club!
We had a lovely little breakfast get together with Residents in our Cafe this morning.
This morning the ladies had the choice or fresh butter croissants, pan au chocolate's and pancakes with freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee.
Our breakfast club is on every Monday morning from 9:30am. Reident's, family and friends are able to enjoy a continental breakfast, in a relaxed setting with classical music and delicious coffee.

Bingo With The Buxted Beavers
We had some very special guests at here at Hurstwood view, the Beavers and leaders from 1st Buxted O'Brien’s Own Scout Group.
We had a wonderful evening showing the Beavers around the home, and introducing them to residents.
We then all joined in for a game of Bingo in the Cafe. Our Residents loved speaking with the children, and were full of praise for how well behaved they were.
Thank you Beavers for coming to see us, you brought so much joy to our evening!

World Encephalitis Day 2024
We have had the best day fundraising and creating awareness for World Encephalitis Day 2024.
This morning saw a bake sale containing a huge variety of delicious cakes. Lots of friends, relatives and members of the local community dropped in to purchase cakes and enjoy these in our Cafe. The biggest of thanks to everyone who baked and donated, each and every cake looked delicious! Special shout out to our wonderful Head Chef Karen Downie who spent yesterday baking for us. Next up for the day Ashdown Radio interviewed Lisa and Brian on their show! We discussed our fundraising plans, and Brian spent time telling his wife, Janice’s, Encephalitis journey. We hope you all tuned in, and learnt a little more about the condition and what to look out for!
This afternoon Ruth Fahie joined us for live music, and of course there was lots of fizz! At 3:30 we drew winners for our huge raffle! We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our local community. Thank you to everyone that donated prizes, you’re all amazing! We will be contacting winners tomorrow if you weren’t in the home this afternoon.
We’re over the moon to announce from today’s fundraising we have raised a fabulous £827.60! This will be donated to Encephalitis International in support of the excellent work they do. Thanks once again from the team here at Hurstwood View, everyone’s support for this cause has been overwhelming.

World Encephalitis Day
The 22nd of February is World Encephalitis Day, and as a home we will be raising funds, and generating as much awareness as possible for such a worthy cause. Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain. It is caused either by an infection invading the brain, or through the immune system attacking the brain in error. It can sadly lead to an acquired brain injury, with survivors being left with life changing consequences.
This charity is particularly close to our hearts as our lovely Resident, Janice, was diagnosed in 2018 completely turning her, and her families lives upside down.
Please join us for a day of fundraising! Staff will be wearing World Encephalitis Day t-shirts, we will have a bake sale, raffle, and Ruth Fahie will be here to entertain us from 2PM. Come and learn more about Encephalitis, enjoy some cake and coffee (or even a glass of fizz), buy some raffle tickets and help us generate as much awareness as possible. Everyone welcome.
More information to follow….
Thank you from us all for your continued support.

Health & Wellbeing day
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Health & Wellbeing day yesterday. Our nurse, Sam, was on hand to help with free health checks and advice, we enjoyed two seated yoga sessions with Suzi, there was access to a huge amount of nutritional guidance, as well as delicious fruit and healthy hydrating drinks. We hope those that visited found the day beneficial, and enjoyed seeing what Hurstwood View has to offer.
