Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Everson

Activities Coordinator & Speak Up Champion

I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.

I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day.  I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Life at Hurstwood View Care Home

Dog Display

Dog Display

Louise brought 2 of her dogs to share some tricks that they have been practicing. The dogs were very patient, if not a little naughty at times. The dogs particularly enjoyed seeing everyone here at Hurstwood View and getting a good fuss made of them.

Ice Cream Making

Ice Cream Making

After the success of last year’s ice cream, we decided to make another batch. All the residents got hands-on with making lemon meringue ice cream – everyone played a part in either breaking the meringue, zest or juicing the lemon and whipping up the cream. We all then enjoyed the ice cream on a particularly sunny afternoon - and it tasted all the better after having made it ourselves.

Open Day at Hurstwood View

Open Day at Hurstwood View

We celebrated National Care Home Open Day by having some afternoon tea which consisted of salmon sandwiches and plenty of cake. The British weather meant that our garden party had to be moved indoors, but this didn’t stop us from having fun. We enjoyed a performance from Full Beam Productions and had Pimm's and beer during the show.

Alongside the Open Day, we also ran a royal prize draw and a 'guess how many sweets are in the jar' competition. We raised £124.50 for the Barchester Foundation and can't wait to get fundraising again soon.

Thank you to everyone who supported us during this event.

Exercise with Alison

Exercise with Alison

Exercise volunteer, Alison, has been getting us moving once a week with great moves and music to get us motivated. Everyone is always keen and we love having Alison brighten up our home every Thursday.

Petpals

Petpals

Petpals made their monthly visit and this time they brought 4 adorable chicks with them - they were only 16 days old but were very settled and great company. One resident said that it is so nice to get the opportunity to see such a variety of animals and at all different ages.

Making the Most of Our Garden

Making the Most of Our Garden

The sun has been shining and we have been making the most of the weather. Our gardens are starting to look a lot brighter now; the flowers are blooming and it’s great to get out in the fresh air. We have been enjoying Pimm's and ice cream in the sunshine, which we all hope continues so we can spend more time in the garden.
