Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Everson

Activities Coordinator & Speak Up Champion

I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.

I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day.  I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Life at Hurstwood View Care Home

National Cupcake Week

National Cupcake Week

We kicked off National Cupcake Week by spending Monday making and decorating cakes and then enjoying them during afternoon tea. A few residents told us that they've enjoyed baking all their lives, so they especially loved this activity. We shared stories of our times baking and a lot of residents recalled helping with the Christmas cake as children, each taking their turn to stir.

On Wednesday, we held a test and taste session, where residents were presented with 6 different types of frosted cakes. We used smell, sight and taste to identify each flavour.

4th Anniversary

4th Anniversary

We spent the afternoon of our 4th anniversary listening to music from The Swingettz, drinking a cool glass of bubbly and enjoying afternoon tea. Martin, our Chef, made a lovely chocolate cake for us all to enjoy and a great time was had by all who attended and shared stories of their time at Hurstwood.

Petpals - Guinea Pigs

Petpals - Guinea Pigs

Our monthly visit from Petpals was a special one this month as, not only were we joined by adult guinea pigs, but we also had the honour of being some of the first to handle the 2 week old babies. As always, everyone got involved with handling and learning about the animals and Izzy the guinea pig even took a wander around the home to visit some residents who were unable to attend the group.

Oliver with a Twist

Oliver with a Twist

We would like to thank a resident's great-niece who, along with her friends, came to the home and put on a wonderful performance. The room was full to capacity and the interaction and laughter with the audience was great fun for all.

Cherry Tree Trip

Cherry Tree Trip

Our annual cherry tree trip took place on Wednesday 3rd August. When we set off for the day, the weather looked a bit bleak, but, with our picnic packed, we weren’t going to let this stop us from enjoying a day out. By the time we arrived in Northium, the sun was shining and we were able to enjoy our picnic before setting our minds to harvesting our cherries. The variety we picked were called Regina - these are dark black cherries that taste as juicy as they look.

Our pickings were a little low compared to last year, but a great day was had by residents and supporting family members, and there was still plenty to be shared around when we returned. Thank you to our Deputy Manager, Kirsty, and Dave, our Maintenance Manager, for being very supportive and ensuring that this trip went ahead.

Annie's Art

Annie's Art
