Activities at Hunters Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters.  I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity.  I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Baking at Hunters

A fun day of baking at Hunters today. First some fantastic biscuit making with help from our Memory Lane community. Lots of laughter rolling out the mix and then decorating delicious chocolate chip cookies just in time for a cuppa. Then this afternoon was all about pizza making with the General community. Lots of fun as we loaded up with our favourite toppings, sharing stories of past pizza experiences. Followed by a patient wait as they cooked so we could all sample the yummy results. A great day with fantastic treats for all.

Table Tennis Fun

An active afternoon of table tennis at Hunters. Lots of fun with residents trying both seated balloon tennis as well as braving ping pong balls for a real game. Balloon tennis is always a favourite and a lot trickier than it looks. Our residents love any chance to get active and this was no exception. The competition was high as we all had a go to see who had been picking up tips from the recent Olympics.

50s & 60s Party

A rock ‘n’ rolling afternoon at Hunters for our 50’s & 60’s party. Live music from the brilliant Bobby Bee, singing some old classics including a fantastic Elvis tribute. The dining room was rocking as we sang along with Bobby, bringing back lots of fond memories of years gone by. Singing, dancing, fun and laughter as usual made for a great afternoon. So many smiling faces and some cheeky mock-tails. We even had a visit from a Pink Lady.

Equestrian Trip

A real treat for our residents yesterday as we were once again invited next door to the wonderful Hunters Equestrian, to attend their Affiliated Dressage Event. Residents have been looking forward to this outing and enjoyed a couple of hours watching the beautiful horses and their very talented riders. They were lucky enough to see both the practice sessions as well as the judging, all whilst keeping warm with a nice cuppa. Many of our residents grew up around or worked with horses, and this was a great opportunity for them to reminisce and share fond memories of their experiences. A big thank you to Frank and his team for making us feel very welcome as always. We will definitely be back.

Knitting for the NHS

Knitting club at Hunters is always popular both as a way to continue a favourite hobby and as a way to have a good old natter with friends. Recently our wonderful residents have been producing fantastic miniature square blankets known as “bonding squares”, which we then sent off to the Local Neonatal Unit at Great Western Hospital in Swindon. These super squares are always welcome at the hospital to help keep premature babies warm. This week we received a letter back from the hospital thanking our residents for all their hard work.

Well done ladies.....keep up the good work!

Quiz in the sunshine

Some photos from last week as residents enjoyed Barchester’s Big Virtual Quiz! The weather was too good to stay indoors and our residents asked if we could move it outside. It was a fantastic idea and meant we could all enjoy the sunshine as well as a delicious ice lolly. The quiz was tricky and took some teamwork, but in the end everyone did a great job. Most importantly we had lots of fun and it was just so nice to see everyone smiling in the sunshine.
