Activities at Hunters Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters.  I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity.  I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Christmas Tree Decorating

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas...” Residents from both our General and Memory Lane communities have been getting in the festive spirit by assembling and decorating some of the many Christmas trees around the home.

Lots of fun and laughter, first working out how to put these lovely trees together, before deciding just the right place for each bauble and ornament.

We shared some magical memories of Christmas past, trimming the tree and our favourite presents.

The end results were truly fantastic with lots of wonderful comments from residents, staff and visitors.

Reindeer Farm Visit

A lovely afternoon yesterday as we braved the cold weather and made our first festive visit to see the magical animals at Cotswold Reindeer Herd.

Residents had a wonderful time meeting, feeding and learning all about these fascinating creatures. It was a first for two of our residents, and they were very happy to cross the experience off their bucket lists!

The farm is a wonderful place and we are so lucky to have it just down the road.

Thank you to all the brilliant staff on the farm, we hope to get a few more visits in before Christmas.

Mince Pie Making

Mince pie making was the order of the day yesterday at Hunters.

Guided by our Head Chef Leo, our residents had lots of fun rolling out pastry, adding the filling and even cutting out the stars for the tops.

Everyone lent a hand as well as advice on how to get these delicious treats just right. They were then baked in the oven before being enjoyed with a well-earned cuppa.

It definitely got us in the festive mood and there were lots of requests to make this a weekly event!

Fantastic work everyone, they look delicious!

Dobbies trip at Christmas

Dobbies Garden Centre is always a popular destination for residents, even more so at Christmas.

Last week we visited Dobbies to see there fantastic Christmas decorations and gifts for sale. The whole place looked magical and really got our residents in the Christmas spirit.

Lots of things added to our Christmas lists for Santa whilst enjoying a cuppa and cake.

Birds of Prey Visit

More animal antics at Hunters today as we welcomed back Walks With Hawks.

Always a popular session with our residents who love meeting these beautiful creatures. The smiles on faces say it all, as a record number of residents, friends, family and staff came to join the fun.

Today the fantastic Kerry brought in Gerald the kestrel, Hibou the white faced owl and Pickle the burrowing owl. Kerry was brilliant and so informative.

Thank you so much, you always bring so much joy to our residents.

We will see you again soon!

Halloween Party

Halloween at Hunters is always a special event and this year was no different.

Our wonderful residents enjoyed a spooky party, with live music from the brilliant Shayne Driscoll and lots of amazing decorations and even yummy themed treats to finish.

Everyone was smiling, laughing and singing along. We were joined by friends and family, with many of our fantastic staff dressing up for the occasion.

So much fun, everyone had a great time.
