Activities at Hunters Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters.  I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity.  I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.

Hunters Celebrate King's Coronation

What a wonderful day we all had at Hunters celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III, the day started with bucks fizz to toast the King and Queen. Residents and staff greatly enjoyed watching the service and pageantry in Westminster Abbey followed by the parade. Most of our residents watched Queen Elizabeth's Coronation and spoke about the ceremonial traditions.

In the afternoon we were delighted to welcome the D-Day Dollies fabulous performance which was greatly enjoyed by all. The celebrations continued with families joining us for a traditional afternoon tea.  Thank you to our amazing activities team for decorating Hunters so beautifully and their planning for these events and to Leo and the hospitality team. What a momentous and action packed day.

Memory Cafe Talks About Benefits of Keeping Active and Singing

Today's Memory Cafe at Hunters was very well attended with a lovely mix of families and the community, we were also pleased residents could attend as today was very much about enriching and improving the lives of all older people.  We welcomed two guest speakers. Firstly Paula Holford talked about the importance of keeping active.  Paula talked about all the benefits of any kind of movement working with the individual.  Paula left us with a great piece of advice - what is good for the heart is good for the head.

Mitch Watkins from the charity Mindsong spoke about the amazing work of the charity which works across the whole of Gloucestershire. Mitch has been volunteering with the charity for many years, visiting Hunters for 6 years.  Singing uplifts us all and evokes emotions.  We finished with Mitch leading a sing along to Edelweiss and You are my Sunshine with Paula encouraging residents to move to the music. Thank you so much to Paula and Mitch for their time today and spending time chatting with everyone after the talks as well.
