Activities at Hunters Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall
Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters. I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity. I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Reptiles at Hunters
Something very different at Hunters last week as we made some new reptilian friends!
The brilliant Jordan and Tyrese from JJ's reptiles visited Hunters for the first time and brought along some of their truly fascinating creatures for us to meet.
The residents had the opportunity to hold these incredible animals and ask any questions they had.
We met a Crested Gecko called Elsa, a Royal Python called Pumpkin and Steven the Scorpion.....who glows in the dark! The star of the show was definitely Ollie, the 8 foot long Boa Constrictor. He was definitely a handful.
Lots of fun was had and a few fears faced for both our residents and staff, with many saying they had never had the chance to get so close to reptiles before. Jordan and Tyrese were both fantastic, aiding our residents and teaching them all about these new friends.
We look forward to inviting them back soon.

Birdhouse building
Some amazing DIY skills and artistic flair have been on show this week at Hunters.
First constructing some incredible bird houses.
A little tricky at first, but lots of fun, with residents helping each other follow the right instructions to build these great little houses. Then just important painting and decorating the houses, picking just the right colours to show off around the grounds.
The brilliant bird houses look fantastic and they will be given a weatherproof coating before being placed around the gardens ready for the winter.

Therapy dog visit
Another super visit from Hunter's resident Therapy Dog "Lix" today.
Together with her owner Louise, Lix is very popular with our residents who all look forward to her monthly visits.
Together they have been visiting Hunters for a couple of years. Lix brings smiles to whoever she meets and these sessions mean so much to our residents.
Many love to share their stories of past pets and family friends. Lots of cuddles and smiling faces all around.

Anyone for golf?
A fun new activity for some of our residents as we started a new putting competition. In the weatherproof surroundings of our lounge. Residents practiced with equipment donated by fellow resident Geoff.
Whether they had never picked up a club before or a seasoned pro, everyone had fun and all scored very well.
This will definitely become a regular at Hunters, with laughter and friendly competition amongst friends. Plus all important exercise and fun. Next stop Augusta!

Sausage and Cider afternoon
A real treat for our residents who got to sample some delicious food and drink today at Hunters.
With an idea born from a conversation with John, a residents at Hunters, who mentioned his love of different ciders, we decided to combine this with a sausage tasting.
Both General and Memory Lane communities came together, and with the help of our head chef Leo, got to sample a variety of delicious sausages all washed down with refreshing glass of cider.

Singalong with Alan
Another great afternoon with the amazing Alan Tocknell, who is a real favourite with our residents. Lots of singing and dancing from the residents and nurses. Music is such good medicine and Alan always gets everyone smiling as he performs a range of hits from throughout the decades.
