Activities at Hunters Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters.  I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity.  I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.

Life at Hunters Care Home

Family Visits

Recently, we have been able to allow residents to have visits from their family and loved ones. After the COVID-19 lockdown, it has been a huge relief for everyone to be reunited and able to speak to each other face-to-face.

Since the beginning of March, Hunters has done everything possible for residents to be able to stay in contact with family and friends, including via Skype and Facetime, but there is no substitute for face-to-face contact, and with the recent relaxing of lockdown rules, it has been to safe to start family visits, albeit under strict criteria to maintain safety.

Visits have taken place outside and at a distance of three metres, but when the weather has been unsettled, the resident has remained inside and is able to speak to their visitor, who remains outside under shelter. There have been lots of happy smiling faces and a sense of relief that families have been reunited.

Cocktail Hour

The residents at Hunters enjoyed a cocktail afternoon, sampling different exotic drinks, ranging from Mojitos the more adventurous to a healthy mocktail for those who enjoy their juice alcohol free. To get everyone into the spirit, there was some 1920’s music playing in the background, which gave the afternoon an authentic feel.

Hunters Singalong

This week at Hunters, the residents enjoyed a good ol' singalong with all of the traditional favourites. To keep everyone cool during this hot weather, staff opened all of the doors to allow a cool breeze to blow through the room. There were plenty of cold drinks and ice creams to keep everyone happy.

Carers Week at Hunters

Hunters held a celebration to mark International Carers Week. Head Chef, Leo, made a delicious cake and for those who were not on duty there was a glass of bubbly. The staff deserve all of the recognition they get for their hard work and dedication in these difficult times. The residents were able to attend the small get together to show their appreciation.

Exercising at Hunters

At Hunters, we have come up with a novel way to stay fit and active whilst maintaining social distancing. Michelle, who is part of the activities team, came up with the idea of using the inside cardboard from wrapping paper to use as bats to hit the balloon backwards and forwards between the residents. Not only healthy and safe but also a lot of fun!

Flower Arranging Session

In the absence of this year’s Chelsea Flower Show Hunters decided to celebrate all things horticultural with an afternoon of flower arranging. The residents enjoyed a relaxing and creative afternoon assembling the displays.

Afterwards they were served a delicious cream tea and as is customary at Hunters the arrangements were delivered to residents who are nursed in bed to brighten their day.
