Activities at Hugh Myddelton House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Hugh Myddelton House says don’t worry BEER happy

You better beer-lieve that residents at Hugh Myddelton care centre in Southgate, were more than hoppy to raise a glass, and sample some top ales, in celebration of National Beer Day.

Beer lovers at the home celebrated, and spread beery joy by joining the national toast at 7pm on June 15th, along with millions of people across the country to say ‘Cheers to Beer’. The activity team at Hugh Myddelton House brought in a range of brew-tiful British ales for residents to sample, after a game of indoor skittles players all had built up quite a thirst and were awarded medals and certificates plus celebratory drinks!

Carla Sanders, General Manager at the home, said: “We love socialising and celebrating all kind of events. Beer day is one that the residents really enjoy, it’s nice for them to enjoy a tipple! We are continually adapting, and finding new ways to make sure every effort is focused on creating an enjoyable environment for all of our residents, whilst adhering to social distancing advice.”

We are welcoming new residents and patients into our homes to ensure that we are there for those that need care and support, and have a very clear admission policy and infection control protocols that must be met. Please do give us a call on 020 8886 4099 if you are looking for care or need any further help.

Residents design and make a birthday cake fit for the Queen!

On Saturday June 13th, the Queen celebrated her second, and official birthday. But there was an extra incentive to join in the festivities at Hugh Myddelton House care home in Southgate, as residents were asked to design a birthday cake in honour of Her Majesty’s birthday.

The winning cake design was then whipped into reality by the residents and baked by the homes’ chef, and finally enjoyed by residents and staff on the Queen’s special day.

Residents were also treated to a special birthday afternoon tea, prepared by the hospitality team. The Queen’s birthday was marked with a small celebration at Windsor Castle, where the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are staying in isolation.

Carla Sanders, General Manager said: “Residents absolutely loved the idea of having their cake brought to life, and were very happy to celebrate our longest reigning monarch. Here at Hugh Myddelton House we are continually adapting, and finding new ways to make sure every effort is focused on creating an enjoyable environment for all of our residents, whilst adhering to social distancing advice.”

We are welcoming new residents and patients into our homes to ensure that we are there for those that need care and support, and have a very clear admission policy and infection control protocols that must be met. Decorating and tasting our favourite biscuits

Last Friday we celebrated International Biscuits Day with a lovely tasting, decoration and reminiscing session. Residents were very happy tasting different types of biscuits, including delicious homemade biscuits just taken out of the oven and brought for the session by our Chef. Everyone really enjoyed decorating with all the coloured icings and chatting about their favourite ones from the childhood.

We're welcoming new residents

Honouring our carers for National Carers Week

Hugh Myddelton House care home held a day of celebrations to thank care staff at the home, who make a real difference to the lives of those in their care.

Staff were treated to a party with delicious cakes and small gifts provided by Barchester. Thank you cards for everyone and a letter of thanks from the Managing Director was read out before all tucked in the sweet treats!

Staff also gave a call to family members who have been unable to visit due to lockdown, but whom also give so much support to their loved ones, and carers in the home.

Carers Week is an annual event to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges carers face, and recognising the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK, which now, is more important than ever. Carers have a vital job in the care of residents throughout the home, and form very special bonds with the people they look after. They are the day-to-day face of our home, working directly with residents and families to ensure the very best quality care and support is given.

Carla Sanders, General Manager said: “I am very proud of the carers at Hugh Myddelton House. In light of the current situation our carers have continued to work tirelessly to provide high quality, personalised care to the people living in our homes, and often go above and beyond the call of duty, which has a huge impact on people’s lives. They offer friendship and comfort to residents and their relatives, during what can be a very emotional time. We appreciate the work they do all year round, and especially in these unprecedented times”.

Thanking our care team

All the team at Hugh Myddelton are so grateful to the relatives of our residents and local community for their kind words in cards, letters and treats over recent weeks.

Deliveries of chocolates, cakes and flowers are very much appreciated and keeping us in good spirits. We look forward to welcoming visitors into the home again soon
