15 July 2021View the report
"My dad spent his final four weeks at Hugh Myddelton. The staff were so caring of dad and also his family. We wish we had moved him from his previous home much sooner. We will always be so grateful to the staff for their kindness to dad and us."

"An exceptional nursing home, with caring and competent staff. Management is equally helpful and supportive. The quality of my father's life and health psychologically and physically has significantly improved since being at Hugh Myddelton House, despite his medical conditions. As a family, my sister and I have complete peace of mind in the knowledge that our father is in the best care. Thank you to all staff."

"Mum has been a Hugh Myddelton resident since March 2018. During these months of lockdown and the challenges, this in itself has presented to all of us, we as a family (my sister, my brother and I) are very happy with the care provided to our Mum. The nurses and care staff undertake their work in a professional, compassionate, kind and caring manner and always take time to explain to us how Mum is doing when we call/visit. Both the home administrator and admin assistant are welcoming and friendly on the phone. In particular, our experience of the activities co-ordinator is wonderful. She is doing a tremendous job in keeping our Mum active and stimulated, with a sense of fun too! This is clear to see from photos taken during the activities and from our garden/indoor visits when we see Mum. We are comforted to see Mum is content and settled when we Skype/visit. Everyone is working so hard to keep us all going. All in all, we can see how Mum is well cared for and looked after. Thank you."

"My mother has been at Hugh Myddleton House for over 9 years and the ground floor team (particularly the nursing team) look after her so well. She can be quite tricky but over the years, they have changed her drug routine for the better, have got her to get out of her bed and sit in a chair, she even walks around and chats to people now, which was something she hadn't done for years. Yes, it is expensive but my mother is safe, well cared for and content so I can't ask for anything else."
Juliette Hcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.17 out of 5
"The staff allowed us to have a garden visit recently, they were incredibly sensitive, caring and brought such joy to our day."
Emma Bcarehome.co.uk rating: 5 out of 5
"Currently in the process of rectifying issues caused by actions by the manager ignoring their own terms and conditions, which allowed the input of people that are not next of kin listed with themselves. This to me is a serious safeguarding issue, which will be followed up once a full investigation is completed. Because of this, and a number of smaller issues over the years, I would not recommend this care home to anyone."

"I’m very happy with the care provided to my husband. The nursing staff look after him very well which is a comfort to my family and I. My husband seems very settled and happy. It has been hard for us all not being able to visit during the pandemic and he has coped quite well not seeing us, but we have seen him in the last couple of weeks and it was lovely to see him. Thank you again."

"I am very pleased with the care given to my sister. The nurses and care staff are very friendly and are always available to talk to us and give feed back."
K Hcarehome.co.uk rating: 5 out of 5
"I feel the staff require training regarding being organised, especially as papers went missing in my father's folder. Staff should not make stories when they don't know the answers as I had some confused answers contradicting themselves. Also, some of his clothing went missing. I expected more professional service after paying private service which was expensive."

"My Mum has been a resident here for over 4 months. During this time I have found the home to be very clean, well maintained and the food to be very good and nutritionally well balanced. The staff across all borders from reception, to carers and chefs etc. are all exceptionally good. They are accommodating, compassionate people. My Mum is very well looked after and we as a family are happy our Mum is in safe hands."

"Hugh Myddleton House have done a fantastic job caring for my uncle. The staff always treat the patients with dignity and respect, even in difficult and distressing circumstances. My uncle always expressed how much he enjoyed the food and dining experience when well enough to visit the dining room."

"My dad was only resident at Hugh Myddelton for a very short while but I am so thankful that he spent his final days at a home so filled with love and care. From pre-admission until the end of his life my dad was treated with kindness and compassion, and the whole family were cared for and supported at the end of his life."

"I have found my stay comfortable and friendly. The staff could not be more helpful. It would be bettered only by having more staff on duty each day. Medical care is 1st class. Hospitals and specialists are called in to assist when they feel the need the food is very good and varied, allowing for diets. Requests are met with if nothing on the menu is liked."

"My mother has been resident at Hugh Myddelton House Care Centre for almost three months. The staff are caring and attentive and the quality of nursing care is good. My mother is kept clean and the home is airy and has a garden which gives my mother access to the outdoors in warmer weather which she enjoys. Her room is pleasant and the quality of her meals are good and she has regained weight that had been previously lost."

They are extremely passionate about the care they provide and I am extremely happy in the knowledge that my mother is safe here and looked after by a team of dedicated and wonderful people. I hope I have given you an insight into the remarkable team working here, looking after my mother with dignity, respect and kindness. They are an asset to their profession."

"My husband has been at Hugh Myddelton one year. I have no complaints at all. The staff are so caring and have so much empathy. I cannot complain at all."
Gulbeden Ncarehome.co.uk rating: 5 out of 5
"Since my mother entered care I have seen care quality delivery of the poorest standards at one care home; good delivery with occasional catastrophic negligence at another, and a standard way below those at Hugh Myddelton at her last nursing home. She has now been at Hugh Myddelton for as long as her combined time at 3 previous establishments and her care quality remains exemplary in comparison, where she is content in spite of her slowly advancing dementia."
P Mcarehome.co.uk rating: 5 out of 5
"Our experience for our mother can be described only as "excellent" and hence answers as below. Please do not underestimate this! Following a most distressing time at hospital (hospital were as good as could be) - One staff member, in particular, has been a breath of fresh air subsequently in all respects and not just in her recovery. I repeat, a deserved 10 out of 10 for below on all counts and a massive thank you."
Viken Gcarehome.co.uk rating: 5 out of 5
"My mother has been in this home since 2004, she has received overall good care. I find the staff are friendly and always welcoming. My mother seems happy here. The rooms are clean and the food seems ok. My mother prefers mostly one to one activities and the activity co-coordinator really tries to meet her needs as she is still young and likes to do things that maybe the older generation doesn’t. Overall the home is good."
Danielle Bcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.08 out of 5
"My Father-in-law is staying in Hugh Myddelton for a couple of months whilst his wife is in hospital. The staff are very helpful, friendly and have helped him to settle in."
M Rcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.42 out of 5
"The home has been fantastic from our first point of contact. The manager had great empathy and understanding, immiediately making my Mother happy with the decision. On arrival, the senior nurse was very quickly ontop of my Father's requirements, despite his late arrival after a hospital discharge. Subsequently, another member of staff has been fantastic and provided a high degree of confidence within the medical nursing care. All carers genuinely live up to their name - Happy, professional and warm-natured. The home is immaculate and the quality of care is exactly as we wished."
Mark Hcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.92 out of 5

"All the staff were welcoming and friendly. This was my first visit and it was encouraging. There seems to be a lot of activities and I would hope that everybody who is able to, participates. The only concern was the occasional and intense smell of cigarette smoke in the corridor, immediately next to his room."
J Scarehome.co.uk rating: 4 out of 5
"Overall the standard is good to very good, with a manager who works hard to maintain a high standard, as do the majority of the care staff who work very hard to complete the daily tasks. The dementia floor struggles to feed 19 residents with 4 care staff and 1 nurse and rely on help from other floors and managers. One to one for two residents is now helping the situation. The auxiliary staff are also helpful."

Nurses and care staff are of very good standard and their knowledge of caring is just wonderful. The awareness of medical needs is 1st class. The manager is at hand at all times. The home is a very friendly place. Thank you, Hugh Myddelton House Care Centre and all who make it the best."

"My husband who has Alzheimer's and is confused to a wheelchair is happy at the Hugh Myddelton House Care Centre. The staff are very caring and the food is excellent. Occasionally things get lost e.g pyjamas, hearing aids, but overall I am very satisfied with the care his is getting and I would and have recommended the home."

"I find the nursing home friendly with good care and excellent staff. Home has been recently decorated with an excellent restaurant and café, both opening onto a pretty garden. The manager and his staff have worked hard in maintaining standards. The nurses and carers are well trained and compassionate, ably supported by our activities co-ordinator, and restaurant staff."

"It is a huge relief for us to know that our father is "safe" 24/7 while we continue to work and care for our families. Staff are kind and caring and go the extra mile for dad and have become like family to him. The home has a community feel and although staff are extremely busy, they also have time for us. I have and will continue to recommend this home to friends and family."

"I was extremely concerned when I was told that my mother was too immobile to be able to live in her own home again. I felt that she would never be happy elsewhere. All this concern has gone since my Mum moved into Hugh Myddelton House Care Centre. She is eating again and laughing again, the nurses and carers treat her with concern, dignity and love, I could ask for no more. The home feels truly like a home, and although we are real newcomers, we have been welcomed with open arms."

"My sister resided at Barchester Hugh Myddelton House since 2004 to 2017. The staff there have looked after her very well. We were all like a family. The current manager is excellent, as are his staff, from nurses, carers, house-keeping, domestic, excellent chefs and warm, friendly and helpful reception and office staff."

"The nursing and care staff are professional in every way - kind, considerate and informative. My mother conveys positive feedback frequently. Although confined to her room mostly, we find that we are always made to feel welcome at all events. The overall standards of cleanliness and consistency of staff are a constant comfort to us."

"This purpose built modern care home is well furnished, bright and clean. The staff are very caring. The food is good. There are activities for those who are able to participate. Like most care homes/hospitals, they don't always have enough staff, so the nurses and carers are very busy."
C Ncarehome.co.uk rating: 5 out of 5
"Carers and staff are dedicated to their job, unfortunately, the care home are unable to retain carers on a long term basis and continuity trying to employ staff to those who leave. Many carers leave after gaining experience and certain qualifications and apply to join employment in "national health service" for "better terms" of employment."

"The home cared for my father from start on 7th July 2015 until has passing on Friday 12th August 2016. He was 102 and 10 months! He was in a poorly state on his arrival but if it wasn't for the excellent care and nursing he wouldn't have survived so long. All the staff loved my father, he was cared for, nursed and clean! Such a worry when you are leaving a loved one with strangers but we had total peace of mind with leaving him at Barchester Hugh Myddelton House. We can't thank them enough."

"On Saturday 20th August, Barchester Hugh Myddelton House Care Centre organised a BBQ. In spite of rather changeable weather, the staff put up gazebos in the garden, the chef cooked chicken, salmon and sausages in a strong wind. The dining room was decorated and the cold buffet was laid there. Some residents went outside, but a lot (in wheelchairs) stayed in the dining room. Everyone seemed happy. After the meal, there was entertainment. All sections of the staff - from the management to carers and the entertainment staff worked so hard and made it a most enjoyable day."

"Dad had reached the great age of 101 when after having spent a month in hospital, it was decided he needed 24-hour care, and what wonderful care he got. The staff at Barchester Hugh Myddelton House Care Centre are the most kind, caring and professional bunch of people. From the nursing staff to the cleaners. Ou minds were at peace knowing he was in the care of such dedicated staff. Dad has just passed away the dedication shown to him and us went above and beyond the call of duty."

"The home is always clean and tidy. Mum receives excellent care from all the staff. She always looks clean, well cared for and the clothes are always colour coordinated. The laundry service is excellent. There are always plenty of staff so I know she is always safe and always treated with dignity which is so very important."
