Activities at Hugh Myddelton House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

McVitie’s Tasties Biscuit Decorating Competition

Residents enjoyed getting into a crafty mood with their entry for the UK’s best decorated biscuit in the competition for the McVitie’s Tasties Care Home biscuit decorating champion!

With a base of McVitie biscuits residents rolled out icing and created beautiful biscuits which were then displayed and eaten with an afternoon cup of tea. Hugh Myddelton’s entry is now in and we are hoping to be a winners, watch this space for an update when the judges have made their decision

Great Shot!

Basketball demands hand and eye coordination - standing or seated getting the ball into the hoop give you a lift and feeling of achievement. Our game on this week included residents and the care team so there was a healthy sense of competition amongst the players

Smiles all round at Hugh Myddelton House on Friendship Day

Hugh Myddelton House had a creative morning celebrating Friendship Day on 30th July wrapping ‘tea box’ gifts and creating friendship cards to send to the local community. There were smiles all round as staff also shared the importance of friends and how they can enrich your life.

The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

Today, Friendship Day is celebrated in many countries across the globe and is a special occasion that encourages people to celebrate their friendships – old and new – by spending time with their friends and family. Traditions vary between cultures but they generally include the exchange of friendship bands, cards, and other gifts to mark the day.

Care homes can play a key role in combating loneliness and social isolation in our communities, and what better place to start than Friendship Day?

Ramona Stanciu, Deputy Manager at the home, said: “Everyone at Hugh Myddelton House was keen to get involved in Friendship Day’s celebrations. It was really nice to see residents enaging with their friends in the home, and I think it made everyone realise just how amazing it is to keep in touch with old friends.”

Great swing action by Gordon!

The weather has rather curtailed our outdoor activities however we are still exercising muscle and mind every day, residents input into the daily programme means everyone get to choose their favourite

National Chocolate Day

Thank you to all our relatives who donated chocolates for residents to enjoy a special sweet celebration of all things chocolate! Marshmallows and fruit were dipped into the milk chocolate fountain, the serious chocoholics double dipped their individual chocolates too. It was certainly a day to forget the calories!

Donation to St Andrews Church brings much joy

Hugh Myddelton House care centre presented St Andrew’s Church with a cheque for £203, collected by donations from residents and their families.

The care centre welcomed Father Edd Turner and his family to accept the cheque in the garden of the home.We are welcoming new residents and patients into our homes to ensure that we are there for those that need care and support, and have a very clear admission policy and infection control protocols that must be met. Please do give us a call on 020 8886 4099 if you are looking for care or need any further help.

Father Edd, said “On behalf of St Andrew’s I’m delighted to accept the cheque, the church is an important part of the community in Southgate and whilst we are not able to hold open services at the moment we are working in the community with all our volunteers and supporting outreach projects, our sermons are available online too”.

Carla Sanders, General Manager at Hugh Myddelton House care centre, said: “We are always keen to show as much support as we can to local charities, residents have appreciated the weekly prayers Father Edd provides and we are looking forward to welcoming the team back to the home for the regular church service in the future".
