Activities at Hugh Myddelton House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Summer BBQ Party

Staff, residents, relatives and local community came together at Hugh Myddelton House to enjoy the annual Summer Fete held in our garden on 8th of July. We all enjoyed a wonderful sunshine day with live entertainment from the amazing Morris Tamir, raffle, delicious BBQ and cakes prepared by our Head Chef and his team, refreshments and cocktails. There was a really special day with laughter and lots of fun! Thank you to everyone who came along and helped raise funds for our Barchester Charitable Foundation.

Wimbledon

Our tennis fans had a wonderful time watching Wimbledon virtually in the lounge or from the comfort of their rooms, along with delicious strawberries, cream treats and Pimm’s. A lovely time was had by all.

Pony Adventure

The friendly pony Scooby-Doo has won the hearts of residents and staff at Hugh Myddelton House, when Des and Alfie from Performing Pets paid a visit to provide some much-needed animal therapy. What a lovely treat for our residents to see their new furry friend roaming around our garden! Scooby – Doo even went into some of the residents’ rooms for some fresh fruit and vegetables and of course lots of cuddles. We just love seeing beaming faces when we bring the animals in. A pony’s visit to the home was an amazing experience for all our residents and seeing all those smiling faces is something we will never forget.

National Beer Day

We had a fun-filled day as we raised a glass and tasted top ales in celebration of National Beer Day on 15th of June. Our residents enjoyed a mini beer festival in the garden and got involved in a variety of interesting activities. Some of our residents spent time learning about brewing and the history of beer, others preferred to join the beer tasting session in the garden and to try some British beers. It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all

Jubilee Celebrations

We celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in style with a whole host of fun-filled activities, live music entertainment and lots of fizz. In recognition of the special occasion we also organised a Royal Tea Party and enjoyed a variety of delicious cakes, teas and scones. Ahead of the celebrations, our residents and staff worked hard to decorate the home with colourful banners, decorative Jubilee plates and flower displays fit for the longest reigning monarch. Excitement has been running high as residents and children from Merryhills Primary School have been busy making Jubilee - themed decorations and talking about this historical event. We all had a wonderful time celebrating the Queen‘s Platinum Jubilee!
