Activities at Hugh Myddelton House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Hugh Myddelton House was decorated with shamrocks and everyone got dressed up in green to mark St. Patrick's Day. Residents and team members had a fantastic time enjoying a live music show that took place at the home. Local singer, Pete Morton, performed a selection of Irish songs including Molly Malone, The Irish Rover, Danny Boy, The Belle of Belfast City and many more. Residents joined in with the singing and clapped along as the singer performed his finale song Whiskey in a Jar. We all had a wonderful St Patrick's Day and sampled some Guinness & lovely Irish whiskeys too.

Out & About with Oomph!

Residents at Hugh Myddelton House were delighted to take a minibus trip with Oomph to Palace Gardens Shopping Centre in Enfield. After some shopping residents enjoyed a lovely cup of tea and a delicious slice of cake in the cafeteria. We all had a wonderful time!

Pancake Day!

On 1st March, residents and staff at Hugh Myddelton celebrated Pancake Day! Our Head Chef, Christopher Abrigo, prepared the pancakes and our residents enjoyed making their own delicious fillings!  We had traditional lemon and sugar, choices of fresh fruits and hot chocolate sauces with fresh cream. We’ve had so much fun reminiscing and sharing our favourite recipes for fillings.

Animal Therapy

Residents and team members at Hugh Myddelton House were pleasantly surprised to see some unusual visitors from Performing Pets recently. Everyone really enjoyed cuddling, touching and feeding the little baby goats, Lola and Lily, and learning more about the farm animals and their habits from Des and Karl.

We knew that having the farm animals at the home would be a bit of fun for all our residents and we have seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence that animals can have on people.

Love is the Air

Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by creating heart-shaped decorations to decorate the home, gifting each other home-made sweets, cakes and treats and enjoying a live music performance that took place at the home.

Local singer, Pete Morton, performed a selection of love songs including Love Me Tender, Can’t Help Falling in Love, Delirious Love. Residents joined in with the singing and clapped along as the singer performed his finale song Love and Marriage.

We all had a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Chinese New Year Celebrations

Staff and residents at Hugh Myddelton welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a day of celebrations and activities.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, lucky red envelopes were exchanged and the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns. Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year and made lovely Chinese lanterns. Our Head Chef, Christopher, cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food.
