Activities at Highview House Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Aiden Wylie
Hello, my name is Aiden Wylie, and I am Head Activities Coordinator here at Highview House. My job is to ensure a mentally and physically challenging and varied calendar of activities. I want to involve all our residents in a warm and welcoming environment.
My career has been in education and I have lived in countries as diverse as Japan and Iraq, but in 2022 I came to Highview with the ambition of offering a range of activities, trips and entertainment which lead to lasting memories and experiences.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Highview House Care Home
English National Ballet
We celebrated Remembrance Day with English National Ballet Associate Dance Artist, Richard Bermange, who led a creative dance workshop for our residents followed by a special extract of Akram Khan’s work Dust, premiered in 2014 as part of ENB’s Lest We Forget programme, commemorating the First World War.
ENB company dancers, Erina Takahashi and James Streeter performed the extract and provided some insight into this moving work.
Our residents had a wonderful time as they listened, danced and were able to singalong to famous war time music performed by ENB Associate Musician, Matt Hartley-Stevens.
Vegetarian Halloween inspired demo
We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Halloween-inspired virtual cooking demo.
Alex demonstrated how to prepare a few themed dishes, such as root vegetable tagine, roasted butternut squash mac-n-cheese, chocolate pots with piped biscuits and flapjacks.
Our residents were delighted to be a part of this lovely virtual culinary session by tasting the vegetarian dishes from the comfort of our home.
Wedding Belle
Here at Highview we are always looking at new ways to make a difference with our residents and their families. When the family of resident, Peggy were unable to secure a wheelchair taxi to the wedding of her grand-daughter, we were only too happy to step in. With Peggy dressed in her finery, the homes activities coordinator, Lisa and Sam, Head of Care assisted Peggy on the homes mini-bus to take her to the wedding, where she watched the ceremony taking place under a 300-year Oak tree. Peggy, said “It was a beautiful day, and I and so pleased I was able to go”.
Creative writing with Mike Gayle
We had a great time joining journalist and novelist, Mike Gayle, for an intriguing virtual interview, during which he shared top tips for creative writing with our residents and read passages from his latest book, All the Lonely People.
We were thrilled to find out about Mike’s background, to understand what led him to become a writer and his creative process.
It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all, especially by our keen writers at the home.
Residents take a virtual cruise
We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Lisa Richards from Unilever for an exciting Virtual Cruise experience.
Our residents were welcomed with mocktails as Lisa and Paul took them on a magical journey to 3 mystery destinations, which were uncovered after a few clues.
Paul demonstrated how to create a few of the local traditional dishes, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.
The event evoked lots of great memories and it was truly enjoyed by all.
A virtual trip down under
Leonora Murdoch is a resident at Highview, one of her daughters lives in Safety Bay Western Australia, Leonora has visited her daughter in the past and has stayed there for long periods but due pandemic Leonora’s daughter has not been able to visit, so with the help of the Oculus (virtual reality) Leonora visited Safety Bay.
It was a lovely experience for Leonora as she remembered some of the places she had visited. After Leonora had finished we printed off some picture’s and sent them to her daughter so she could see how well her mum was doing.
