Activities at Herne Place Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure are a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat is always be welcomed.

Sophie Glasgow

Activities Coordinator

My name is Sophie, I am the Activities Coordinator here at Herne Place Care Home. It is my duty to ensure all residents feel happy and content. I love my job because I enjoy seeing our residents smiling and having fun on a daily basis.

I enjoy getting to know all of our residents on a one-to-one basis and in a group setting. This allows me to get to know their hobbies and ambitions as individuals, and fulfil these with life enriching activities they appreciate and will benefit from.

Life at Herne Place Care Home

30 years of Barchester celebrations

Wow! What an amazing afternoon was had by all on Saturday, celebrating 30 years of Barchester. An amazing performance from Laura Watson with lots of singing and dancing from the residents and the team.

Our whole home approach

At Herne Place, the caring for our residents is a whole home approach.

Quite often, our Maintenance Manager Howard, will dine with residents at lunchtime.

Gentlemen's Club

Our gentlemen have been very competitive this afternoon, along with our Maintenance Manager Howard, in their gentlemen's club over a game of dominoes and a game of pool, along with a nice cold glass of beer.

Making Christmas Cards

Our residents have been busy making Christmas cards ready for our Charity Christmas Card sale on Tuesday 29th November.

Lest We Forget

What a wonderful performance we had again from Lest We Forget.

Amazing singing from both the performers and the residents and so lovely to have musical instruments being played.

Remembrance Service with Rev'd Carol Smith

Today the residents commemorated the signing of the Armistice Day agreement on the day that the guns finally fell silent. They joined the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month.

As well as marking Armistice Day by wearing poppies and observing the national two minute silence, they all joined Reverend Carol Smith of St Martin's in Herne in a Remembrance Service.

Due the week the residents took part in therapeutic activities making poppy wreaths, listening to old wartime songs, and reading war poems.
