Activities at Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Marie Spires
Marie Joined Hafan Y Coed in February as the Lead Activities Coordinator. Marie has come from a Sales and Marketing background but has always had an interest in working in the care sector. Marie will lead the activities team and have a lot of input in the day to day organising and planning of events. Marie said “ I am very excited to have been given the opportunity to making a difference to the life enrichment for the residents. I like to make people happy and think my bubbly personality will brighten the residents day. I have a love for singing and will definitely be heard around the home for sure! I hope our new activities team will make a huge difference to the day to day lives of the residents at Hafan y Coed

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home
Valentine's Day Celebration
We held a Valentine’s afternoon tea, which all our residents and family members enjoyed. We all had the perfect afternoon. having tea and cake and listening to love songs playing in the background. We could feel the love!
Christmas Fete
We held our annual Christmas Fete here at Hafan Y coed. The staff dressed up as elves and we had Swansea rock band choir in to perform for our residents and family members. We had a variety of stalls including outside traders. The day was enjoyed by many and it started Christmas off with a bang here Hafan y Coed.
Donkeys Visited Hafan-Y-Coed
Team members and residents enjoyed the company of Mike and his donkeys coming to visit us and see the residents. The donkeys came to visit us in December, they loved being here bringing joy to our residents and family so much that they are returning to us for another visit.
Around the World
At Hafan-Y-Coed, we travel the world with a new destination each month. This month we are in France. The staff have dressed up in traditional French costumes.
Lauren, our activities coordinator, did a 4 hour sponsored French mime, raising over £100 for our residents' fund. We have also had French-themed restaurant days and the home is decorated with all things French.
Running for Alzheimer's
Admin Assistant, Louise Rolfe, completed the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 6th October, finishing in 2 hours and 53 minites, and managing to raise £407 for Alzheimer's research.
106th Birthday Celebration
One of our residents celebrated her 106th birthday recently. We had a big party and we read out the card from the Queen.
