Meet the Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home Team

From nurses and carers to chefs and housekeepers, staff in our home are here to deliver high quality care and services to those we support. Check below to meet some of the friendly faces you are likely to see when visiting our home:

Sarah Morgan

General Manager

Hi, my name is Sarah, and I am the General Manager here at Hafan-Y-Coed. Welcome to our website!

I am a registered nurse with a wealth of knowledge and experience within the nursing/care home sector. I have worked at Hafan-Y-Coed for over 10 years, starting as a carer.

I then pursued a nursing degree and worked as a nurse on our dementia community, before becoming a Unit Manager. I assumed the post of Deputy Manager in 2019 and I was promoted to General Manager in 2021.

Michael O'Reilly

Responsible Individual (RI)

Michael O Reilly joined Barchester Healthcare in April 2017 and is the Responsible Individual (RI) for all of our Welsh services. As RI, Michael visits all Welsh services at least every three months and works closely with the home management team and regulators to ensure that the highest quality of care is offered. Michael is very proud to be part of the team.

Michael holds the position as General Counsel and Director of Quality, Risk and Compliance as well as the Company Secretary for Barchester.

Gemma Thomas

Deputy Manager

Gemma started in post on 31 January 2022, and holds her QCF Level 5 in Leadership and Management. Gemma supports Sarah day to day. Gemma has a wealth of knowledge having previously worked in Emergency Medicine and has worked for Barchester since 2021 in the regional Operational Trainer position as well as many other years within the care and management sectors.

Vicky Muntean

Senior Nurse

Hello I am Vicky and I am the Senior Nurse on the General nursing community at Hafan-Y-Coed.

Vicky started nursing in Romania in 1994. Vicky started working at Hafan-Y-Coed in 2002 and remained with us until 2015. She then worked in Sancta Maria Hospital in Swansea for a short period where she wanted to develop her nursing skills and returned to Hafan-Y-Coed in 2021. English is my 4th language.

Lauren Thomas

Team Leader

Hello I am Lauren I started in Hafan-Y-Coed in July 2022. I am a team leader on Hafan-Y-Coed’s residential community. I have worked in the care industry for the last 4 years and have specialised in dementia care, I love working with the residents and meeting families. I have NVQ level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care. I am very passionate about providing person cantered care.

Katie Sheppard

Administrator

Katie joined as the Hafan-Y-Coed administration assistant working on reception, but has recently been promoted to become the home's administrator.  Katie will often be the first point of contact with the home with her friendly voice on the phone.

Marie Spires

Activities Coordinator

Marie Joined Hafan Y Coed in February as the Lead Activities Coordinator. Marie has come from a Sales and Marketing background but has always had an interest in working in the care sector. Marie will lead the activities team and have a lot of input in the day to day organising and planning of events. Marie said “ I am very excited to have been given the opportunity to making a difference to the life enrichment for the residents. I like to make people happy and think my bubbly personality will brighten the residents day. I have a love for singing and will definitely be heard around the home for sure! I hope our new activities team will make a huge difference to the day to day lives of the residents at Hafan y Coed

Nicola Kearney

Head of Housekeeping

Hello I am Nicola the head of housekeeping. I joined Hafan-Y-Coed in 2002 and I really enjoying working with my team to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness all around the home.  It is a delight to chat to residents as we clean and deliver their laundry.  

Chloe King

Admin Assistant

Hello I am Chloe and I am the administrative assistant at Hafan-Y-Coed, working in the admin office with Katie. I started with Barchester in 2017. I also have an Activities background. I love meeting new residents and families and I enjoy working in the care environment. I am very proud of the success of Hafan-Y-Coed and the excellent reputation it holds within the local community. 

Sue Jenkins

Activites Assistant

Sue joined Hafan-Y-Coed 8 years ago as a member of the housekeeping team.  Sue loves interacting with the residents and has recently moved across to the new role of activities assistant, whilst still keeping the position in housekeeping one day a week.  Sue is currently studying for Level 2 in QCF Health and Social Care to advance her knowledge of working with older people.  Sue is embracing the new role in activities and brings some great new ideas.

Clare Hanford

Activities Assistant

Hello I am Clare and I am on the activities team. I have worked in Hafan-Y-Coed since 2015, I also have a background of care.

I work following Barchester's Life Enrichment Programme which looks at meeting the residents' needs and enhancing their wellbeing in mind, body and soul.
