Activities at Fordmill Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Julia Constandache
I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.
I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Fordmill Care Home

Bee Happy
Spreading happiness is our number one goal at Fordmill, so to celebrate World Bee Day, we bumbled around and spread the love and happiness to not only our residents, but our staff who we are very appreciative of. This got lots of laughs from the residents and they were happy to sing a little to us. Staff were offered a gift of thanks and some pancakes and honey. Later in the day, we thanked the residents personally by all going outdoors to our garden area and buzzing around them with all the fuss they deserve. This was very fitting too, as our residents love the Chelsea Flower Show which will start this week, and they have been busy in the greenhouse, planting lots of beautiful flowers for our bees to feed on. And of course, they could feast on the pancakes and honey also. To bring the outdoors in then the indoors out, is great for our residents, so they never miss out!

Laughing Yoga with MCT
A huge thank you to Links Community Trust for all the laughs with our residents. We all loved our belly laugh dancing, and singing out loud! Everyone had a fantastic time and smiled throughout as they joined in with all the fun and the biscuit quiz got everyone calling out loud! What a fantastic credit to the town you gents are!!

Celebrating Cadbury's
Residents across our services had a wonderful time joining Cadbury for an interactive virtual talk on their fascinating 200-year history.
Residents joining learnt interesting facts about the chocolate giant, shared memories, and reminisced about their favourite sweet treats.
It was a heart warming experience filled with laughter, nostalgia, and plenty of chocolatey goodness!

Anyone for tea?
What a lovely afternoon celebrating National Tea Day! The china cups and the pretty teapots were beautifully arranged on the tables before the residents were invited into the dining room and indulge themselves into an afternoon full of tasty tea and delicious cakes beautifully prepared and presented by the homes hospitality team.
The music was on with the residents singing along to the well known tunes. It was a great afternoon and as the residents said everything was superb. What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Pet therapy
Fordmill was full of animal mischief recently when two lovely ponies came to visit the residents. Everyone at Fordmill was excited to see their new furry friends roaming up and down the corridors when Flicker and Wilson paid a visit. They even had their new shoes on and enjoyed showing them off!
General Manager Aileen Alberts said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their interaction today with the Shetland ponies. Having a connection with animals is a very important part of our resident’s lives, with many having been brought up on or around the local farms. We knew that they would make an impact and be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus. We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we were able to go a step further and not only have them visit our residents, but for the residents to take the ponies reigns for a while. There is such enjoyment from a therapeutic approach in working with animals that shows on everyone’s face.”

Come sing!
Residents across our homes and hospitals had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper from Biiah as he led an amazing sing-a-long session for residents to enjoy.
Residents who joined the event were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ by Jimmy Cliff and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles.
Across our homes there were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.
