Activities at Fordmill Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Julia Constandache

Senior Activities Coordinator

I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.

I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Fordmill Care Home

Just passing through

Our residents had a lovely time joining Daniel Snowman, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Just Passing Through’.

Author of over a dozen books, Daniel Snowman’s long and active life has led him to interact in countless ways with the wider world and with some of its most famous inhabitants. His memoir evokes these experiences via a series of vivid literary vignettes.

Our residents found the talk very intriguing and informative, and were happy to learn more about Daniel’s experiences around the world.

Virtual singing session

Our homes had a fantastic time with vocal coach Mark De-Lisser as he led an amazing virtual singing session for our residents to enjoy.

Our residents were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I’m a Believer’ by The Monkees.

There were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.

National Picnic Day

It was so hot that we had to shelter in our marquee and enjoy our picnic. Matt, our chef was very busy getting all the food ready. He made quiches, sandwiches, tomato soup, cupcakes and lemon jelly. Everyone said they were divine. Thank you Matt. We finished off with a lovely ice cream and a game of bingo. The flowers on the tables were from our beautiful garden, sorry Richard but they were just what we needed for the occasion.

99-year old enjoys first McDonalds!

They say you’re never too old to enjoy an ice cream and the residents at Barchester’s Fordmill Care Home in Montrose can certainly vouch for that!  There’s nothing in the world that can beat the excitement of going out to McDonalds for an ice cream!

The weather was glorious, lovely and sunny, just like our residents! What a fabulous day out it was and it brought back so many happy memories of times gone by.

General manager Aileen Alberts said,

“Isn’t it lovely to see our residents so happy and carefree, we’re certainly going to have more days like this!”

Resident Kath, couldn’t believe they were out having McDonalds. How much better does life get, sun, sea and Ice cream!

National Trust talk

Our homes had a fantastic time joining National Trust Talks Service team at Cliveden House for an inspirational talk on Nancy Astor – the first woman to take a seat in the House of Commons.

Our residents had the opportunity to learn more about the fascinating life of Nancy and her political career. As the first women MP, she experienced both attention and scandal throughout her life, which led to many triumphs and numerous disasters.  The talk was truly enjoyed by all.

Celebrating carers week

Happy Carers Week! We would like to take this great opportunity to recognise and thank our wonderful carers here at the home.

We are proud of each and every one of our care team for the outstanding care that they provide to our residents every single day. They always go above and beyond their role and for this we are truly grateful.
