Activities at Fordmill Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Julia Constandache

Senior Activities Coordinator

I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.

I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.

Life at Fordmill Care Home

A coffee with NESCAFE

We had a fabulous time joining NESCAFÉ’s virtual coffee experience.

We were able to look into how they sustainably farm their coffee beans, as well as, to have a virtual tour of one of their factories all from the comfort of our home.

To make things even more interesting, our residents had the chance to test their knowledge with an interactive quiz, and to the delight of all to taste the signature Sweet Cinnamon Shaken Iced Coffee cocktail.

Six Nations at the Fordmill Inn

Residents and colleagues at Fordmill care home in Montrose have been cheering on their home side throughout the Six Nations Tournament. The home has been decked out with flags and residents have been enjoying all the action over the past few weeks.  Everyone is so excited that fans are allowed back in and the atmosphere at the matches is back to normal. The staff have had opened they own Pub for the residents to watch the Six Nations and they called it “Fordmill Inn”.

Rugby fans at Fordmill Care Home were delighted to be able to watch all of this year’s fixtures.  Residents and staff have been getting together to watch the matches and celebrate with a cold beer and rugby-inspired bar snacks whipped up by head chef Matt.

Valentine's treats

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.  Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.

Meet our new friend

Let us introduce you our 2 1/2 month old new friend Cassie. Isn't she just gorgeous! Some of our residents walked Cassie in the garden and brought so much needed joy into the home. Cassie will be part of our Fordmill family and will help keeping the residents happy and active.

National Squirrel Appreciation day

National Squirrel Appreciation Day is a fun excuse to have a celebration on a random day in January. We were extremely lucky to be able to walk in the garden and have so much fun, the weather was just glorious. We had even an unexpected visitor

Robbie Burns party at the 'Fordmill Inn'

We had a very busy afternoon at "Fordmill Inn" celebrating Robbie Burns. Was an afternoon full of Scottish music, singing dancing, poetry, plenty snacks and drinks enjoyed by all. Was nice to be able to gather together and spend some time with old friends and meeting new ones.
