What our families say

Staff always very polite, and supportive towards myself when visiting and to their residents
Kay Sellar

Staff are always friendly and caring with residents and relatives when visiting. There's a great variety of activities for residents to join in with if they wish.

The staff at Fordmill, Montrose Ground floor were absolutely amazing with the care and compassion while taking care of my mum, during her stay when she was at "end of life care"
Huge thanks to Sandra on night duty and Laura on day shift. Their care, compassion and professionalism was outstanding!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Fordmill has brought peace, care (both physical and emotional) , compassion and laughter to my mother in her later years. All her needs are met in a very clean, beautiful, warm, welcoming environment.
All staff (from the various departments), are very friendly to my mother and our family and we're made to feel welcome. They look after all aspects of my mothers health and liaise with us regarding any issues which is reassuring.
I wish to say a big Thankyou to all staff for their ongoing care and compassion to mum👏👏.
And a special thankyou to the Activity Organiser Gulia Constandache. Your 1 in a million!!! Your ideas are brilliant, and your enthusiasm passes onto your team (Moira & retiree Lullivine), staff and residents and also visitors! The joy and laughter is so lovely to see. It's a gift you have Gulian.
Thankyou to manager Aileen and your staff.

The staff at fordmill go above and beyond for the residents. The home is like a hotel, warm, clean and luxurious. The staff are special people, caring and kind, overseen by the professional manager who involves herself in every aspect of the home and makes sure it runs like clockwork. Fordmill is full of life due to the entertainment team. The grade 6 for their care inspectorate for excellence was very well deserved and cannot recommend this team enough.
Thank you for everything you do

"My cousin spent his final year in Fordmill, suffering from a terminal illness. He was so well cared for, that his life expectancy, initially 6 weeks, was extended by a year. He was very content, despite being bedridden, due to the excellant care and attention given by all staff members. He especially enjoyed the food, and we enjoyed the cakes with our cuppa on our visits. It gave us peace of mind that he was happy there."

"About 14 years ago my mother passed away here after 2 or 3 happy years here, more recently my uncle passed away after approximately 18months as a resident, as a family we were able to spend more quality time with them both and not have to worry about their day to day stuff when they were at home, the care both were given was excellent. Also 2 of my elderly neighbours have lived here, one recently passed and my other neighbour is loving it, highly recommend,"

"My mother was admitted with stage four cancer, dementia and diabetes. As a family we knew she did not have much good days left ahead of her. However the staff - to a man - looked after both my mother and father - who visited every day, with love and dignity. As a family we are truly grateful for everything you dad to make mum's final days comfortable and enjoyable as they could be."

"Our father passed away 2 weeks ago, having spent the last 5 years as a resident of Fordmill, I very much doubt if we would have had him with us that long, had it not been for the wonderful care provided by the staff and management. They literally became his second family with their compassion, skilled work and great personalities. He was always very contented when we visited, and never once told us that he was unhappy with his situation, or any member of the team. Barchester are truly fortunate to have a care home like this within their organisation."

"We were a family with no experience of a Care Home. From the moment we were met in the foyer in March 2024, with our mum, the staff have gone above and beyond to make her and the residents happy and well cared for. From Management to catering and cleaning, not forgetting the professional nurses, they are unsung heroes. The entertainment team, enjoy themselves too with entertainment which is both relevant and fun. Mum loved the church services and visits from schools, nursery schools, dancers etc. Really big thanks."

"A very humble experience seeing a loved one taking much needed rest at the end of life. The care she was provided with was second to none. The care staff go above and beyond becoming family members to our loved ones. Such special memories created within the home not just a care home but an actual home to residents. Lovely setting."

"My wife is unable to walk or stand (advanced MS) so "activities" are not relevant. She is a bit 'fussy' about food and is gluten intolerant. However, the home went to great lengths to provide her with a choice at each meal. This was a 3 week respite care that was mostly paid for by my local council, cannot comment on value for money."

"Our friend was in Fordmill Care Home for five months and passed away while residing there. He was young, so found the food was very bland and uninteresting. The care he received was good and the manager was fabulous with him. Trying to accommodate his food choices. For the money, we thought the rooms were basic with no private shower facilities."

"My mother went into care at Barchester Fordmill Care Home in Montrose at the end of September and only spent a few weeks there until she died on the 11th of November. The staff at Fordmill Care Home have been excellent and our family cannot fault the care she received in her last few weeks. The manager, nursing team, care workers, and domestic and catering staff are a fantastic advert for Fordmill Care Home. Their care and compassion extend to families as well as those in their care and we have really appreciated the concern shown for us throughout her stay, particularly in her last days and since, even approaching us in the street in their own time to ask how we were doing after her passing. They are all a credit to the care profession."

"Mum was admitted to Fordmill Care Home in September 2022 initially for respite care, and transferred to a permanent resident two weeks later. Everything was sorted out by the Fordmill management team taking a considerable worry away from myself and the wider family. Knowing mum was going to be well cared for in a well-run nursing home that she liked was a great comfort to myself and my family. The staff are exceptional and whilst you would like to specifically mention those who have directly interacted with the family it would be unfair, as all staff encountered were in my mind exceptional, making the home welcoming, friendly and demonstrating an eagerness to provide a first-class level of care. I cannot praise the management, care team and support staff enough. Even visits in the early hours of the morning were greeted with a smile and an offer of tea or coffee."

"Unfortunately, my mother was only in Fordmill for 17 days prior to her passing. I am unable to comment further on the home due to the circumstances we found ourselves in. I'm sure my mother would have enjoyed the activities that were on offer. During the time we did have at the home, the staff not only looked after mum so well but us her family. They showed great respect and dignity to my mother during her end of life care."

"My husband and I were greeted warmly and offered refreshments and personal time to acclimatise to new surroundings. All employees (domestic, catering and exceptional nursing staff-all grades) were respectful and caring of our needs including emotional support. The manager and all staff are a credit to the establishment. During my husband's stay, he received exceptional care, respect and dignity and was comfortable with the care he received. Great concern was shown to me and my son. A simple thank you to all at Fordmill isn't enough."

"Mum was a resident for 16 months until sadly, she passed away. From day one, the care, attention and professionalism shown to Mum, myself and the rest of the family were second to none. From the manager and management team to the nurses, carers, housekeeping and catering staff, with a special mention to the activities coordinator who gave Mum a renewed lease of life in her last year and a half."

"I have had relatives in several care homes and none of them come close to being as good as Fordmill. Relatives are well looked after, and always kept clean and tidy. Laundry comes back to the correct person and rooms are kept clean and tidy too. Lots of activities going on and staff interacting with residents. Food and drinks are always available. Well done all at Fordmill."

"My sister was in Barchester Fordmill for two weeks for respite care while I was away. The rooms and general areas are spotless and her room was lovely and bright and comfortable. The staff were all very kind and caring, particularly the manager and the head of unit. My sister said the food was delicious and that she also particularly enjoyed sitting out in the gardens, which are beautiful. Thank you to everyone at Barchester Fordmill for making her stay so comfortable and for taking such good care of her."

"My father-in-law was in Fordmill for a week of respite care (for the first time at age 97) and he was very well cared for during his stay. The team were very welcoming and so helpful and friendly putting him at ease. Food was plentiful, good home-style cooking which he enjoyed. We were grateful that time was taken to find out more about his younger days/his likes/dislikes and his routine at home meaning as a family we could relax and recharge for a few days knowing he was in safe hands. The caring staff met all of his needs in a safe homely environment and treated with the dignity and respect that his generation deserves and for this we are truly grateful."

"All Fordmill staff at all levels have been unfailingly professional, polite, courteous and helpful. My brother was always treated with respect and dignity, and the overall level of care he received was excellent. The only slight negative was that, in my opinion, my brother's room was somewhat tired and would benefit from a 'freshen up'. Overall, Fordmill Care Home is an excellent facility, and all staff should be complimented."

"Initially, we (my siblings and I) were apprehensive about the next stage of our mother's care. We wanted her to be in a safe, warm environment with the view of assessing her needs holistically. The homely, warm and welcoming atmosphere as you enter Barchester Fordmill Care Home gave me reassurance. It is lovely to see my mother mixing with not only staff but other clients too. In areas for relaxing, dining, entertainment/activities and areas for socialising with her family as well as her own room which she can retire to at any time. I’ve witnessed the staff reassuring my mother and the laughter together, which is lovely to see as it is a big step in the next chapter of her life. Knowing that she is being looked after by such a caring team and I mean by all members of staff is heartwarming from her family's point of view. Thank you."

"I only saw caring, compassionate and friendly staff who were focused on making my mum's stay as comfortable as possible. They also tried to ensure that they knew her individually, especially her likes/dislikes. When Mum became unwell, they were quick to treat her and involve the family and together do what was right for her. During Mum’s end-of-life care, all the staff were exceptional. They were also very kind to our family, continually checking if we were doing ok and providing us with refreshments."

My dad is treated with respect and dignity, and the level of care he receives is excellent. Great areas for relaxing, dining, entertainment/activities, and areas for socialising. We attended the music band celebrations, the lady who hosted it was fantastic, we had a great afternoon, and we all enjoyed it! Took advantage of the lovely gardens and sat outside with Dad in the sunshine, as staff passed they stopped to chat, so friendly. Highly recommend this lovely care home."

"There is nowhere in the world that I would want my loved one to be cared for. the home and gardens are exceptional. The staff are very friendly. I trust completely that my 94-year-old uncle is given the best of care and treated with dignity. The Head of the Unit is always willing to discuss any problem and find a solution. The Events Coordinator is such an amazing person. Her dedication to the residents is unbelievable. Her imagination in thinking up new ways to make the residents smile is such a rare quality. She deserves all the accolades that should come her way. They have the perfect manager, making sure that every resident is looked after in the most caring way. While visiting I have seen her interact with the residents in the most caring way. I spread the word about how wonderful a place Fordmill is where everyone is treated with the utmost dignity."

"After a fall at home which necessitated a hospital stay and then some time in a rehabilitation unit, my Mum moved into Fordmill six months ago. She was apprehensive and anxious about the move but with the excellent care and support of the lovely manager and other staff, she soon settled in and now feels at home there. Fordmill is set in a large quiet garden and everywhere is spotlessly clean and well maintained, laundry has a super quick turnaround, food is plentiful and varied and visitors are always made to feel welcome. The abundance of entertainment and activities available are imaginative and very well organised by enthusiastic staff who gently encourage residents to join in with no pressure to do so. I feel that my Mum is treated with respect and dignity and well looked after by all the friendly, helpful staff and have no hesitation in recommending Fordmill for respite or long-term care. We are so lucky to have such an excellent nursing home in Montrose."

"My husband and I were visiting my mum from the USA. Each time we visit we are always delighted with the care my mum receives. Her individual needs are met but Barchester Fordmill Care Home goes far beyond that. The quality and variety of food is exceptional and is made with pride and obvious care, beginning with the table settings being at a standard to behold the feast that is about to arrive. The daily activities are organised with thoughtful ideas on how best to encourage our family members to use their skills while having fun. When we visited daily there was a lot of activity, laughter and a very family-minded atmosphere between the residents and amazing staff. We were made to feel very welcome and there was always a nice selection of refreshments for us to enjoy. A really superb facility that gives us great peace of mind that our mum has a loving, caring place she calls home. Thank you Fordmill staff, you are a blessing to us all."
