What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"My mum went into Fordmill Care Home last May and I can't speak highly enough of every single staff member at the home. They are all wonderful and caring and take pride in their job. Fordmill has recently been decorated and all rooms are beautiful and welcoming. The food is delicious and there is plenty to choose from. I would have no hesitation recommending Fordmill to anyone."

"Mum enjoys participating in the various activities and socialising with her peers. The staff are kind, friendly and helpful. Mum likes the food and enjoys the company of the other residents in the dining room at mealtimes. The GP, hairdresser, dentist and chiropodist visit the home as required by the residents. Visitors are made to feel welcome. Mum is well cared for."

"I only saw caring, compassionate and friendly staff who were focused on making my mum's stay as comfortable as possible. They also tried to ensure that they knew her individually, especially her likes/dislikes. When Mum became unwell, they were quick to treat her and involve the family and together do what was right for her. During Mum’s end-of-life care, all the staff were exceptional. They were also very kind to our family, continually checking if we were doing ok and providing us with refreshments."

"Initially, we (my siblings and I) were apprehensive about the next stage of our mother's care. We wanted her to be in a safe, warm environment with the view of assessing her needs holistically. The homely, warm and welcoming atmosphere as you enter Barchester Fordmill Care Home gave me reassurance. It is lovely to see my mother mixing with not only staff but other clients too. In areas for relaxing, dining, entertainment/activities and areas for socialising with her family as well as her own room which she can retire to at any time. I’ve witnessed the staff reassuring my mother and the laughter together, which is lovely to see as it is a big step in the next chapter of her life. Knowing that she is being looked after by such a caring team and I mean by all members of staff is heartwarming from her family's point of view. Thank you."

"I have to say that during the time spent in Barchester Fordmill Care Home, my mother was very well looked after and cared for. All staff are very friendly and polite. All in all, my mother had an excellent experience in the four weeks of respite that she received."

"All Fordmill staff at all levels have been unfailingly professional, polite, courteous and helpful. My brother was always treated with respect and dignity, and the overall level of care he received was excellent. The only slight negative was that, in my opinion, my brother's room was somewhat tired and would benefit from a 'freshen up'. Overall, Fordmill Care Home is an excellent facility, and all staff should be complimented."

"My father-in-law was in Fordmill for a week of respite care (for the first time at age 97) and he was very well cared for during his stay. The team were very welcoming and so helpful and friendly putting him at ease. Food was plentiful, good home-style cooking which he enjoyed. We were grateful that time was taken to find out more about his younger days/his likes/dislikes and his routine at home meaning as a family we could relax and recharge for a few days knowing he was in safe hands. The caring staff met all of his needs in a safe homely environment and treated with the dignity and respect that his generation deserves and for this we are truly grateful."

"My sister was in Barchester Fordmill for two weeks for respite care while I was away. The rooms and general areas are spotless and her room was lovely and bright and comfortable. The staff were all very kind and caring, particularly the manager and the head of unit. My sister said the food was delicious and that she also particularly enjoyed sitting out in the gardens, which are beautiful. Thank you to everyone at Barchester Fordmill for making her stay so comfortable and for taking such good care of her."

"What can I say - from the minute we walked out of the lift to Mum's sad passing ten days later, we received nothing but pure kindness, care and compassion. An excellent team of fantastic staff from domestics to managers and everyone in between. Giving us endless reassurance, fun and great banter, just what we all needed. I cannot thank them all."

"I have had relatives in several care homes and none of them come close to being as good as Fordmill. Relatives are well looked after, and always kept clean and tidy. Laundry comes back to the correct person and rooms are kept clean and tidy too. Lots of activities going on and staff interacting with residents. Food and drinks are always available. Well done all at Fordmill."

"Mum was admitted to Fordmill after falling during the night at home resulting in a shattered elbow at the age of almost 92 years old. She was admitted for respite care and found the staff, home environment, daily activities and management to be first-class. The quality of care during her stay made a difficult time much easier for me."

"Mum was a resident for 16 months until sadly, she passed away. From day one, the care, attention and professionalism shown to Mum, myself and the rest of the family were second to none. From the manager and management team to the nurses, carers, housekeeping and catering staff, with a special mention to the activities coordinator who gave Mum a renewed lease of life in her last year and a half."

"My husband and I were greeted warmly and offered refreshments and personal time to acclimatise to new surroundings. All employees (domestic, catering and exceptional nursing staff-all grades) were respectful and caring of our needs including emotional support. The manager and all staff are a credit to the establishment. During my husband's stay, he received exceptional care, respect and dignity and was comfortable with the care he received. Great concern was shown to me and my son. A simple thank you to all at Fordmill isn't enough."

"Unfortunately, my mother was only in Fordmill for 17 days prior to her passing. I am unable to comment further on the home due to the circumstances we found ourselves in. I'm sure my mother would have enjoyed the activities that were on offer. During the time we did have at the home, the staff not only looked after mum so well but us her family. They showed great respect and dignity to my mother during her end of life care."

"I live in the USA and I have great peace knowing my mum resides here. The staff are welcoming and caring. Maintenance was very accommodating with all the needs when I brought in pictures etc. from her home to make her room look like her "wee hoose." The food is second to none! Professional Chef is conscious of all resident's nutritional needs and serves up deliciously healthy fare. My mum had poor nutrition and no appetite before moving to Fordmill, now she eats great and enjoys her food. The dining room is immaculate with lovely linens, china and silverware on the tables. A huge change for my mum is how social she is now. Lots of activities are organized in the week that are fun and hands-on. They helped me set up a Facebook portal so now I get to facetime with my mum all the time. They went out of their way to make sure this was up and running and helped my mum navigate around it when I left. Such a blessed life she has now. Thank you staff for all you do day in and day out."

"My mother went into care at Barchester Fordmill Care Home in Montrose at the end of September and only spent a few weeks there until she died on the 11th of November. The staff at Fordmill Care Home have been excellent and our family cannot fault the care she received in her last few weeks. The manager, nursing team, care workers, and domestic and catering staff are a fantastic advert for Fordmill Care Home. Their care and compassion extend to families as well as those in their care and we have really appreciated the concern shown for us throughout her stay, particularly in her last days and since, even approaching us in the street in their own time to ask how we were doing after her passing. They are all a credit to the care profession."

"Mum was admitted to Fordmill Care Home in September 2022 initially for respite care, and transferred to a permanent resident two weeks later. Everything was sorted out by the Fordmill management team taking a considerable worry away from myself and the wider family. Knowing mum was going to be well cared for in a well-run nursing home that she liked was a great comfort to myself and my family. The staff are exceptional and whilst you would like to specifically mention those who have directly interacted with the family it would be unfair, as all staff encountered were in my mind exceptional, making the home welcoming, friendly and demonstrating an eagerness to provide a first-class level of care. I cannot praise the management, care team and support staff enough. Even visits in the early hours of the morning were greeted with a smile and an offer of tea or coffee."

"Our friend was in Fordmill Care Home for five months and passed away while residing there. He was young, so found the food was very bland and uninteresting. The care he received was good and the manager was fabulous with him. Trying to accommodate his food choices. For the money, we thought the rooms were basic with no private shower facilities."

"My mother had been a resident at Fordmill for 2 years 8 months prior to her death earlier this month. Whilst I am saddened at the loss of my mother I take great comfort in the knowledge that not only did my mother receive the highest standards of care during her stay, but she was also very happy there. My mother fully immersed herself in all the activities and day trips, and whilst the various lockdowns were a terrible time for the residents, the staff went well beyond what was expected of them with their care, ensuring their physical and mental well being of the residents was maintained. The home employed a variety of means to ensure families were kept up to date with developments. Individually or as a team, all the staff are worthy of mention. The various departments come together to create a synergy and positive flow that radiates throughout the care home. A truly dedicated, compassionate team who delivers genuine care for their residents. I commend Fordmill and its magnificent team to all."

"The professional and caring approach we have experienced as a family is outstanding from all staff members. Due to geographical distances between our family and the care home, ensuring health and happiness, safety, healthy and proactive support is of primary concern. "I had to move my mother into residential care in August 2020 due to her ill health and her worsening dementia. Barchester Fordmill Care Home came highly recommended and I was very pleased when they accepted my mum into their care home in Montrose. At every contact, the admin team and her care team were reassuring and provided details of her care package and also requested that we provide a brief summary of Mum's likes and dislikes to assist them to settle her in. Her room was personalised with items from her home to help with her transition. She has enjoyed her care there for nearly a year now. As I live over 500miles from the care home most updates are carried out over the phone or by email. I receive weekly updates from the care team which is reassuring for me and builds confidence in Mums care. I visited Mum for her 90th birthday on the 12 July and the staff had arranged a fun-filled garden party which Mum thoroughly enjoyed. A fantastic team providing the benchmark in residential care."

"I have for the second time in 2 years, had a parent (although this time an 'in-law') die after a short illness, in Fordmill. Both were admitted at a relatively end stage of illness - for care nearing end of life. The care was again excellent. Our family felt confident that she was getting care with dignity and compassion 24 hours a day. From the expert management to nursing, care team, laundry team, cleaning and catering - all were excellent. In the short time, we visited daily for end of life, we did not feel excluded from her care in this difficult COVID time. Thank you Fordmill! (PS. I am a retired RGN)."

"Dad had been settled in Fordmill for some time and received excellent care, love and understanding during his battle with Alzheimer's, the staff were so patient and made sure his needs were always met. Sadly when the end came that same level of care and love were very present, in these COVID times we obviously could not visit as often as we would have liked but our hearts were overflowing to see and know the depth of compassion, care and love that Dad was receiving. Staff on their knees by his bedside singing to him, just the best! Forever grateful."

"The service provided by all staff was superb. Care and attention to detail second to none. My Nanny was a resident for a long time and we had a number of staff change, but the service with a smile never changed. The sense of humour and rapport that Nanny had with the team made me laugh. "Mum has with Fordmill for a number of years now and has always been extremely well looked after. In fact, she has now passed her 97th birthday (July) and I am sure this would not have been possible if it hadn't been for the superb care the staff at Fordmill provide to her. During the COVID issue, the staff have been especially wonderful and have supported both mum and me and made virtual contact an easy process, so that I can see how well she is. "Although Mum and Dad have been settled very happily in Fordmill for some time now, this review is directly related to the past few months during the recent COVID crisis. Absolutely everything has been maintained to a very high standard to ensure the safety of the residents. The staff has worked so hard. Their dedication never failing to support residents in all their needs. Safety, cleanliness, approachability, but most of all care and love. As a family knowing they are well looked after means the world to us. Fordmill is home from home. A lovely friendly, caring place in which I would recommend highly."

"My Dad has been a resident at Fordmill for a few months now and has settled so well there. Fordmill is a lovely, bright, clean, safe and caring environment with wonderful staff providing excellent care at all times. It has been very difficult not seeing my Dad for so long due to the COVID crisis all over the country. But since July, being able to have outdoor garden visits with my Dad has been of great comfort for us and the staff have been fantastic throughout. "I must sincerely thank all the staff and management of Fordmill Care Home, Montrose, for the superb care they all continue to extend to my mother, who has been resident there for over 4 years. I can sincerely say that mum, who is now in her 97th year, would not be with us today if it wasn't for their care and support. Mum is happy, healthy and contented, which is not a position she was in when she first went to Fordmill. They have all taken extra time to care for and support her, even though she doesn't always remember them, due to her dementia. The staff and management also provide as much support and care to me, her daughter, as they do to my mother and that is so comforting, given that I am not always in a position to see her as regularly as I would like. There is no better place for a very special loved one to be cared for - I sincerely thank everyone at Fordmill and especially during the challenging Covid-19 epidemic."

"Our dad was at Fordmill for just a few short days before he passed away but, in those few days, we saw a level of care, kindness and compassion at every turn that was both remarkable and a real comfort to us all, particularly as we really struggled in that final period of his decline. The humanity and tenderness displayed by every member of staff to someone they had so little time to get to know and who could do so little in his final days, speaks so highly of everyone at Fordmill. His room was simple, with a lovely view, and provided all that he needed and he never wanted for anything. But what makes all the real difference were his carers and nurses - these people are five star and we were never anything other than deeply impressed by the heart-warming affection that they universally displayed to both him and us. We cannot thank the team highly enough and are so pleased that he chose to go there to make his final days so comfortable. We can't thank the manager and her team enough."

"I find the home clean, the staff efficient and cheerful and caring. I notice, however, that at certain times of the day the staff are under pressure particularly in the run up to and immediately after mealtimes. Thus patients can be left in corridors for extended periods before being returned to their rooms. However, in general, the level of care appears to be of a high standard."

"My brother's nursing care has been exemplary as was transferred from the hospital with some sore skin lesions which have now improved greatly. He is much more comfortable and clean and staff turn him and attend regularly."

"My mother was a resident at Fordmill Nursing Home from November 2017 until she died on February 9th, 2018. During that time she was well cared for, treated like a valued person, and the family were always made very welcome on our daily visits and made to feel very relaxed and at home. During her last few days, the care and attention she received were absolutely excellent, she was looked after with love and respect, right up to the moment of death, and the family were also treated with care and sympathy. I have been very impressed with all staff from management to nurses, carers, domestic staff, cleaners, laundry and maintenance."

"My wife, suffering from dementia and Alzheimers with much-reduced sight, was admitted for nursing care on 6th Nov '17 and passed away on 9th Feb '18. Though I have some reservations about the national company's financial conditions, I have none about the overall care my wife received in the final months of her life. It was attentive, warm, humane care for her and for us on our daily visits. The palliative stage in the last days was handled most impressively and helpfully. Any reservations I have will be discussed, up front, with the excellent manager and her senior nursing staff."

"As a family we decided mother needed full-time care, it was a difficult time but Fordmill Care Home was exceptional. Mum settled almost instantly and we recognise much improvement with mum. We as a family truly appreciate all the staff at the care home. We go to know the manager and head nurse who really helped us immensely with mums smooth transition. Would recommend Fordmill."

"My aunt moved into Fordmill Care Home in Sept 2017 in a very frail confused staff. However, with the care of staff at Fordmill her overall physical and mental condition improved greatly. She did, however, contract a bad chest infection on 2nd Jan 18 and deteriorated very quickly. I cannot express highly enough the high standard of "end of life" care the staff gave her and treated her with dignity and respect."

"I have found all staff and management very friendly and helpful in making new residents welcome as it is a big change to some of their lives. Admins staff have been very helpful in explaining any queries and have had I am very impressed with the varied amount of activities carried out at the home. I know how difficult it is to please some people, catering staff go out go their way to encourage and please residents who may be a bit fussy. Overall I would certainly recommend Fordmill for good nursing care and cleanliness."

"My friend went into care last year, from her initial assessment I have been more than happy with the level of care and consideration given to her. She was treated like a family member in the home, which is down to the management and staff. My friend does not have any immediate family but the home enables me, as her extended family, to help her to the best of our ability. Thank you to all at Fordmill."

"My father came into Fordmill 3 weeks ago and sadly is now in the final stages of palliative care. We are really pleased with the standard of care provided at this difficult time. The staff have been brilliant - they have treated Dad and the family with warmth, dignity and the utmost professionalism. What has impressed me most about Fordmill is the sense of 'teamwork' among the staff. Many of the staff are long timers. This is a difficult and stressful job and they do it with passion and professionalism - nothing has been too much trouble. Dad's last days will be very comfortable thanks to the efforts of the team at Fordmill. What we observed in terms of activities, meals etc for other residents was also of a very high standard. Thank you so much and well done to all the Fordmill team."

"The home is lovely, clean and homely. Staff are fantastic and go above and beyond to make us feel welcome and most importantly, that all my gran's care/needs are met. Plenty of activities and food menus look appetising. By far one of the best care homes I have seen."

"The transition for my granny moving into Fordmill has been a great one, my granny lived independently before this but due to another stroke was unable to do so anymore. The manager and all the staff involved with my granny have been very friendly, helpful and are all very approachable. My granny states she really likes living here and gets on great with all staff, enjoys the food and the activities offered, although does not attend them all she is grateful to be offered. I am so happy that we chose this home for my granny and can not fault anything with it or with staff."

"My dad has only been in Fordmill Care Home for a short period of time but I am very happy with how quickly he has settled in. This is mainly due to the friendly, helpful staff who are very attentive. The staff keep me informed of any changes to my dad's presentation. He always appears clean, tidy and well presented whatever time of day I visit, the care he receives to a very high standard. My dad is now limited in his ability to communicate and I am very impressed with the full scheduled programme of activities on offer to keep him stimulated. This programme is left in his room so relatives can plan visits around this. The care home is extremely well run, organised, clean and comfortable, with a mainly relaxed atmosphere."

"My friend has been a resident since October 2016. Initially, I was very sceptical as one had such horrendous reports, but I have nothing to complain about. They keep me informed of any problems healthwise. She has now deteriorated considerably but I always find her clean, fresh and what appears to be very comfortable. The home itself is clean, warm (with no smells) and staff are always very approachable and friendly"

"This care home has surpassed all expectations, largely due to the fantastic staff; they are so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Family can hardly believe how quickly my Aunty settled and how happy she is. Minor issues have been dealt with extremely promptly and it is clear that this home is striving constantly to improve on the excellent service it already offers. The nursing staff are very diligent and always deal quickly with medical needs. I asked my aunt why she hadn't wanted to move into a home she replied "because I didn't know it would be like this!" Praise indeed!"

"This home is extremely well run and the nursing and caring staff are very dedicated. My dad likes this home very much and agrees that he is very well looked after (but it's not home). Because he is of sound mind but unfortunately not very mobile, he finds that a normal conversation with any other resident is something he misses very much!!"

"I find that all the staff are very helpful and always there when needed. They are always ready to speak to you and they ask if there is anything I need and inform me of anything I need to know about my husband. From the bottom of staff to the top, I am reassured and can leave happy that he is getting well looked after."

"My mother has been a resident of Fordmill for 5 years. From the beginning she was made very welcome and soon settled into, as she called it, her home. Contact with all staff departments has been easy, both at resident family meetings during visits. Fordmills central location, both in its own gardens and the town has made a variety of outings possible. As time moves on more staff assistance is required which is given in a friendly and caring manner."

"My mother has been a resident since 12/2014 during this time she has been treated with dignity by nursing and care staff. They have notified us promptly of any change to her care. The quality of food is very good. The activities to engage the residents and stimulate them is excellent. The only thing I can say in the negative is the care staff are sometimes over run by requests for the toilet. Perhaps a slight increase in staff numbers would remedy this. But they all provide a kind and caring service."

"I find that the care and attention given to my mother-in-law are to a very high standard. Most importantly my mother-in-law is very happy and seems to be far less confused since she moved here. My mother-in-law was herself a very good cook and loves the food. That's almost a miracle. There is always a member of staff available to talk, both for my mother-in-law and we the family. The laundry service is very good and obvious knowledge and care given to all laundered fabrics. We have absolute confidence in Fordmills ability to give my mother-in-law the care, comfort and support she requires."

"My parents are both in Fordmill Care Home after many months of inability to cope at home. My mother needs quite a lot of nursing care and my father has improved immeasurably since going into the home as he is able to take part in conversations and activities with the staff. They have regular showers, a choice of menus at meal times and clean comfortable rooms. I am always consulted if there is any issue about their health. I find the staff very approachable and willing to help."

"My mother has been in Fordmill for over 8 years. This last month has been particularly difficult. She has no circulation in her right leg and it is bandaged all the time. The staff have managed to maintain the rest of her body from bed sores by good management, turning and use of a special mattress. Her pain is being managed with morphine patches and I am kept up to date at all times. Food and drink are offered throughout the day and although I know my mother would not like to be like this she is very well cared for."

"My mother was assessed and quickly moved to Fordmill. The fact that she settled so quickly is evidence of how skilled the staff were in assessing her needs and responding to her personality. She is now limited in her ability to communicate but the staff have noted her enjoyment of music and response to others. A new sheet of weekly activities is attractively presented and refreshments are available to all visitors which adds to the welcoming atmosphere in the home. The hairdresser made a real effort to style my mother's hair in a way which suited her and involved me in this - much appreciated. The whole family is delighted with the home - many thanks."
