Activities at Field House Care Home

The Activities Coordinators here at Field House are always keen to learn about residents' interests and hobbies, tailoring meaningful activities to the likes and dislikes of those we support. Our mission is to ignite the past, appeal to current interests and embrace new ones, improving quality of life whilst stimulating the mind and senses. Activities are carried out via small groups or individually, supported by local volunteers. We have access to a range of local community facilities and nearby places of interest, prompting community engagement, and hold special events at the home, where we are entertained by guest vocalists and performers, with 'The Quiz Master' being a fan favourite.

Caroline Davis

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Caroline and I joined Field House in 2021 from another Barchester home. I have worked in care for the last 30 years and a big part of that has been with Barchester.

Here at Field House, I organise a variety of activities and social events within the home and in the community, such as gardening club arts and crafts, weekly exercise sessions along with live singers and musicians every month. We are also keen on regular outings to local landmarks, museums, cafes and shopping centres.

In my job, I'm able to develop excellent relationships with residents and their families providing the support they need. I am very passionate about my job role as it is very important to us as a team that every individual is able to live the life they wish and feel fulfilled in their everyday activities maintaining past hobbies and finding new ones.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Midland gliding outing

Residents enjoyed going on an outing to our local gliding club where we got to see some of the gliders being worked on, then we were invited in for tea and cake and got to look at the views. It was such a beautiful morning.

To get there, we had to brave the drive up the Burway to the top and the residents couldn’t believe the views and shared stories of the walks they had taken in the past, seeing the wild ponies when we got to the top just grazing with no care in the world. On the way home, we drove down country lanes, stopping off in gateways to look at animals and streams.

National Tea Day!

Residents enjoy a good cup of tea, so they were delighted to hear that we were going to try some different teas. The ladies were more adventurous than the men, but they tried something different even tho it was a 50/50 on enjoying something different.

Some of the teas they enjoyed trying were turmeric and ginger, Earl Grey, lavender, mint, fruit and lots more! Even pushing their taste buds to honey and lemon with it. Most of the residents enjoyed the turmeric and ginger tea. They said it was refreshing and a delight. We followed on with a tea-themed quiz which we all enjoyed. All enjoyed a homemade biscuit and sharing memories and stories

Aintree

We celebrated Aintree in style: horse racing, cakes, chocolate strawberries and a glass of fizz. The Aintree Field House horse owner winner was Peggy, racing home with her horse Star by a hoof, with Peter in second place and Janet in third.

The residents thought the staff did an amazing job keeping the horses under control. We had such a fab afternoon. Peggy said she had a great afternoon, and it's always such fun doing things together.

Valuation Event

It all started with our wishing well wishes. Alice had asked for a talk about antiques, so we thought we would go one better and hold a valuation morning with Halls, our local auctioneers. It was a fantastic morning with people coming and going to Field House.

Residents got involved and showed their special items and visitors as well. We also enjoyed a lovely talk about antiques. It was lovely, and we were invited to the sales room to see how it all worked.

Greek Independence Day

Greek Independence Day! And what an evening we had here at Field House. Our fundraiser for the Barchester Charitable Foundation was a fantastic first event. Stella, our home's head Chef, showed off some of her country’s Greek dishes.

Howard, one of our residents, asked if he could help with the event and really enjoyed helping set out our themed dining room and welcoming guests on arrival.

The staff worked so hard to make the evening as authentic as we could. We are busy raising money for the Barchester foundation, which raises money for charities across the country. Visitors to the event asked if we would hold events like this in the future as they had such a fantastic evening.

Residents celebrating London Fashion Week at Field House care Home

The ladies enjoyed a morning of designing and working together to make this beautiful dress. Then we all shared stories of our own loved fashion outfits and the ones we want to forget.

Alice told us about the beautiful bridesmaid's dress her mother had made and Gillian remembered her favourite pair of high-heel shoes that had leather and copper-coloured heels. She said that she felt so special wearing them.
