Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Fairview House Care Home

Vegetarian Halloween inspired demo

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Halloween-inspired virtual cooking demo.

Alex demonstrated how to prepare a few themed dishes, such as root vegetable tagine, roasted butternut squash mac-n-cheese, chocolate pots with piped biscuits and flapjacks.

Our residents were delighted to be a part of this lovely virtual culinary session by tasting the vegetarian dishes from the comfort of our home.

Creative writing with Mike Gayle

We had a great time joining journalist and novelist, Mike Gayle, for an intriguing virtual interview, during which he shared top tips for creative writing with our residents and read passages from his latest book, All the Lonely People.

We were thrilled to find out about Mike’s background, to understand what led him to become a writer and his creative process.

It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all, especially by our keen writers at the home.

Residents take to the seas

We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Lisa Richards from Unilever for an exciting Virtual Cruise experience.

Our residents were welcomed with mocktails as Lisa and Paul took them on a magical journey to 3 mystery destinations, which were uncovered after a few clues.

Paul demonstrated how to create a few of the local traditional dishes, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

The event evoked lots of great memories and it was truly enjoyed by all.

Musical performance

Residents enjoyed a musical afternoon when they hosted a live performance from popular Aberdeen vocalist, Calum Mcdonald.  Performing outside in the glorious sunshine Calum performed a medley of hits from 60s and 70s classics which residents loved and thoroughly enjoyed.

A visit to the riding centre

As the early signs of Autumn appeared, residents took advantage of the dry weather to enjoy a trip on the homes minibus to visit, Strathclyde Riding Centre were they got up close and personal with Windsor, a beautiful 12 year old stallion who came to visit the home. We all enjoyed seeing Windsor and got to pet this beautiful horse.

Afternoon tea dance

Residents at Fairview enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon when they hosted an afternoon tea dance.  The homes hospitality team whipped up a delicious treat of finger sandwiches, sausage rolls, mouth-watering cakes and biscuits.  As the music played residents took to the floor to show off their fancy feet-work.  Everyone had a great time!
