Activities at Fairview House Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.
Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.
Fiona Mackie
Fiona has been the activities lead at Fairview House since 2021 and is at the forefront for our homes life enrichment.
She speaks about how much she enjoys engaging with the senior generation, learning from their life experience and wishing to pass this on, from this she says "a different day is a different story"
Away from the home, Fiona has a passion for cooking and baking with being a former chef and a love for crafts which she has translated both of these into the homes activities program.
FIona loves to spend time with her family and her two grandchildren.

Mystery Box Fun at Fairview House
It's mystery box time! Each month we prep, plan and create wonderful themed mystery boxes for residents to enjoy. This month our Box was valentines day themed! We have worked hard to provide a variety of activities in each box from archery with heart arrows to reminiscing about the things we love.
Our residents loved these activities and our activities staff work hard to go around rooms of residents to ensure nobody misses out that want to take part.
Valentines preparations in full swing at Fairview House!
Preparations for Valentine’s Day are in full swing at Fairview House. Residents and staff had a lovely time writing messages of love on our special wall and crafting some beautiful cards!
A day filled with lots of love and laughs!
Smiles all round at Fairview House
We kicked off this week with a bang! The home was full of dancing and singing as we listened to some of our favourite songs being played.
Andy is a singer guitarist and was one of the admins for the lockdown live Aberdeenshire page during covid. To get back into the groove of things Andy has kindly provided some excellent entertainment for us and it's safe to say residents and staff had a wonderful time.
Thanks, Andy. We can't wait for you to visit again!
Valentine's treats with Veg for Life
We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration. Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.
First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.
Fairview House Celebrates Chinese New Year
We welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a day of celebrations and activities.
The Chinese New Year is China’s most important festival that celebrated the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar calendar.
Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, our residents enjoyed a creative session with Chinese New Year DIY dragons and made beautiful lanterns to mark the day.
We all enjoyed some music from Greater China, watched last year’s celebrations and had a discussion about the animals associated with the Chinese zodiac. It was a fun day.
Burns Night celebrations at Fairview House
Residents at Fairview House had a great day celebrating Burns Night.
To honour the famous Scottish poet, we hosted a poetry and music session to learn more about the Scottish Country Dancing and the Ceilidh and to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the haggis.
Our tables were specially decorated with flowers and Scottish flags for the occasion as our residents enjoyed delicious Haggis, Neeps and Tatties followed by some delicious Dundee Cake prepared by our talented chef.
We all had a wonderful time celebrating the special day.
