Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

Fiona has been the activities lead at Fairview House since 2021 and is at the forefront for our homes life enrichment.

She speaks about how much she enjoys engaging with the senior generation, learning from their life experience and wishing to pass this on, from this she says "a different day is a different story"

Away from the home, Fiona has a passion for cooking and baking with being a former chef and a love for crafts which she has translated both of these into the homes activities program.

FIona loves to spend time with her family and her two grandchildren.

Life at Fairview House Care Home

Remembrance Rose

Today we took 3 of our lovely ladies out to help plant a Queen Elizabeth Remembrance Rose which was kindly donated to us by Fiona.

Even though it was a little chilly we all loved being outside and making sure the Rose was being planted with care.

We are excited to check on the Rose over the next few weeks and months to see how it is going to blossom!

Residents cheer on ENG-GER-LAND!

Residents and staff at Fairview care home in Aberdeen are getting ready to cheer on the home sides throughout the World Cup.  The home is decked out with flags and residents can’t wait to enjoy the action over the next few weeks.  Everyone is so excited to see how Gareth’s boys get on!

Fans of the beautiful game at Fairview are delighted to be able to watch this year’s fixtures.  Residents and staff are getting together to watch the matches and celebrate with a favourite tipple and footie-inspired bar snacks whipped up by head chef Alex.

70s Afternoon Tea

We got our dancing shoes and fancy dress on, listened to 70s hits all whilst enjoying our delicious bakes, sandwiches and teas/coffee!

The residents always enjoy our afternoon tea days and loved getting involved with this weeks theme.

It was so lovely seeing everyone smiling and socialising together, we already can't wait for the next one!

Armistice Day

We commemorated the signing of the Armistice Day agreement on the day that the guns finally fell silent. Our residents joined the rest of the nation in holding a two-minute silence at the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month.

Over the past few days our residents have been colouring in poppies and sharing their stories surrounding the First World War, it has been amazing all coming together as a home and learning from one another.

We took many of our residents outside to help us create a memorial on the tree by the front door; we hung 104 poppies, one for each year that has passed since the ending of the First World War.

Everyone loved getting involved and were so happy to see all of our hard work come together!

It is very important that we keep the memories of those who fought in the World Wars and honour the contribution of everyone involved.

Gentleman's Club

We had a lovely afternoon at our Gentleman's Club in the upstairs lounge where the men enjoyed some beer and crisps whilst watching Still Game.

We all had an amazing time and it was great getting all the gentlemen together.

Giant Parachute Fun

We had a fun filled afternoon with our giant parachute!

We filled some balloons up with beads and all made a great effort to have them flung up in the air!

This activity was to remind us of bonfire night, having the balloons represent fireworks and the beads inside making the sound of them when they go off up in the sky.

Everyone loved taking part in this and found it a great form of mental stimulation alongside amazing physical activity.

We will definitely be creating more activities with the parachute in the future as it brought a lot of smiles to everyone's faces!
