Activities at Epsom Beaumont Care Home

At Epsom Beaumont, the daily activities always aim to be enjoyable for all. Our Activities Coordinator is constantly working to mentally and physically stimulate each resident and ensuring that our programme is define moulded to the wants and needs of those we support. We host weekly outings to many local coffee shops, and also some bigger trips to Brighton and the Brooklands Museum. Our outings tend to be a new and exciting experience for residents, but are sometimes repeated for those who could not make the trip the first time. The activity schedule changes weekly, but there are some regularities, such as our crossword and bar nights, where families are invited to join their loved ones for a social evening. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home and we are proud to say we have a dedicated Activities Coordinator who is supported by all of the care team to really make it successful. We have received excellent feedback from residents and relatives, which only makes our bond with them stronger.

Louisa Capaldi

Activities Coordinator

I always said when I started working I wanted to have a rewarding job that puts a smile on people’s faces and makes their day just that little bit brighter! I started working in the care sector as a hospitality Assistant, and then became a carer and then the activities coordinator. I really enjoy getting the residents up and moving, and getting active. I enjoy learning new things about the residents and doing meaningful activities with them that they enjoy and benefit from.

Life at Epsom Beaumont Care Home

Happy Gardening

Happy Gardening

The sun was shining and plants needed watering. Mrs. Chilton was excited to help water down the trees and plants, and make sure they’re well looked after. She was really happy to be able to care for the plants and help them bloom as she loves nature.

She used to do gardening at home with her daughter. Despite not living at home anymore she is still able to do the things she loves! She also enjoys just genuinely going for a walk and looking at the plants. So thank you Mrs. Chilton for your help at the garden.

Peaceful Reading

Peaceful Reading

Mrs. Wilkins likes to read the newspaper in the morning, after her breakfast, with a cup of coffee, nicely and quietly. But sometimes it can be quiet noisy, so we invested in a Bluetooth, wireless headphones.

The headphones have a storage space for her favourite songs and allow Jackie to relax and read her newspaper in peace. She really enjoys the new device!

We are now 10-60-06 accredited!

We are now 10-60-06 accredited!

The 10.60.06 program was developed by Caroline Baker, our Director of Dementia Care, and the Dementia Care Support Team. It builds on the principles that underlie Barchester's ‘Memory Lane Community’ approach. It is a training and accreditation program designed to enhance both the dementia care environment in participating homes and to improve interactions between staff, people living with dementia, relatives and health professionals. It focuses on reducing distress, increasing well-being and improving quality of life.

Reminiscence Album

Reminiscence Album

Mrs. Oddy enjoyed some old pictures from her own photo album. We like it when residents utilise items from their past, for example, magazines, toys, music albums and photos. We welcome everything that reminds them of their old times and good experiences. and it also help us to get to know them better.

At Epson Beaumont we would like to encourage friends and relatives to bring personal items of their loved ones that make them happy. We love to provide a more personalised level of care to our residents and to be more connected to them.

Empathy Doll

Empathy Doll

We recently purchased an empathy doll. The doll promotes interaction and it is an invaluable aid at the home. We now understand more about the benefits of using dolls and soft toys, and can explain to family members how they influence positively the well-being of their loved ones with dementia.

Some theories suggest that the dolls can bring back happy memories from parenthood and the feeling of being useful and needed. For some residents, doll therapy is very much a nurturing thing as it gives them meaning and purpose.

International Nurses Day

International Nurses Day

We are very proud of our nurses, who got a visit from the CEO of Barchester, Pete Calveley, who came to visit us to show his appreciation on International Nurses Day. We cannot thank them enough for the hours, training and time they put into making sure the residents are looked after to the best of their knowledge.
