Activities at Epsom Beaumont Care Home

At Epsom Beaumont, the daily activities always aim to be enjoyable for all. Our Activities Coordinator is constantly working to mentally and physically stimulate each resident and ensuring that our programme is define moulded to the wants and needs of those we support. We host weekly outings to many local coffee shops, and also some bigger trips to Brighton and the Brooklands Museum. Our outings tend to be a new and exciting experience for residents, but are sometimes repeated for those who could not make the trip the first time. The activity schedule changes weekly, but there are some regularities, such as our crossword and bar nights, where families are invited to join their loved ones for a social evening. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home and we are proud to say we have a dedicated Activities Coordinator who is supported by all of the care team to really make it successful. We have received excellent feedback from residents and relatives, which only makes our bond with them stronger.

Louisa Capaldi

Activities Coordinator

I always said when I started working I wanted to have a rewarding job that puts a smile on people’s faces and makes their day just that little bit brighter! I started working in the care sector as a hospitality Assistant, and then became a carer and then the activities coordinator. I really enjoy getting the residents up and moving, and getting active. I enjoy learning new things about the residents and doing meaningful activities with them that they enjoy and benefit from.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Epsom Beaumont Care Home

Virtual Singalong

Mr Harris loves music and singalongs, as it boosts his memories and happiness, so Epsom Beaumont arranged a virtual live singalong.

Staff helped residents request songs by messaging the live singer via mobile or on the comments section on YouTube. We were even able to personalise the requests by giving names, so it made it more person-centred.

It was quite fascinating for residents to see how technology has evolved and helped us all through the pandemic!

Bedroom Natter

Some residents aren’t always able to come out of their rooms so sometimes, we host the activities in their rooms, with permission, of course.

Here we have a knit and natter session, where residents and staff came together to teach each other how to knit and crochet! Now residents have been getting involved in the 'Innocent Gig Knit’, and finding lots of new ways to donate to the community.

Jubilee Singalong

We did a jubilee sing along. It was like walking down memory lane, with all the good memories and stories coming to life.

Residents really appreciated the words on the big screen to help. It's not only words we use; we were able to get some original videos up of old singers who have passed away, and they found it very interesting to see them in action again, as some wished they had seen certain singers live.

Each resident had the opportunity to request a song or a video they would like to see, and it really brought joy and happiness to the home with laughter and sounds filling the hallways that have been quiet for so long!

Food Choices

At Epsom Beaumont, residents are always given a choice, especially at meal times, which is very important. Sometimes, reading what is on the menu can be very confusing, especially for our dementia residents, so showing the available choices has been a big help. Residents have been seen eating all the food on their plate. It makes it more enjoyable when you can see the options of food you’re going to eat, especially if you don’t understand what is written on the menu!

Epsom and the Chocolate Factory

Everyone at Epsom Beaumont was treated to sweet treat; our Head Chef a chocolate factory trolley. Staff received Willy Wonka chocolate bars and a few lucky winners got the golden ticket, winning a gift hamper.

,

Our very own 'Charlie and the chocolate factory' day.

Staff at EpsomBeaumont, part of Barchester Healthcare in Surrey were treated to a chef creation of our own chocolate Factory. The team enjoyed their sweet treats and some were lucky to even find their own Golden tickets just like in the film Charlie and Chocolate Factory. #proudtobebarchester #barchestertogether #oneteam
