Activities at Edingley Lodge Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Edingley Lodge Care Home

Sing along and Baking session
Residents at Edingley Lodge love singing and dancing together so this week we thought it would be fun to do some karaoke. Residents also enjoyed in wearing some funny hairstyles.
The activities team and staff at Edingley Lodge organised for the karaoke machine to have all our favourite songs on so we could sing from the bottom of our lungs to the tunes we know and love!
The room fills with laughter and smiles when we are all singing together; it’s a real highlight of the week. Residents Joan sang a duet for us which was brilliant, we really have some very talented residents.
Resident also joined for the weekly baking session this morning we baked some cupcakes.

Autumn crafts at Edingley Lodge
As we’ve seen a change in the weather we’ve felt autumnal arts and crafts were on the cards!
Residents used leaves that we’d collected outside to draw round and cut out leaf shapes to create some autumn bunting. We chose lots of different coloured card to create the look!

Karaoke Time!
There's nothing quite like a good old sing song!
Today we got out the karaoke machine and belted some tunes! Being able to just sing unapologetically is so good for the soul, and turns out some of our residents are keeping secrets and they can more than hold a tune! We all took turns to sing some of the classics such as Que Sera Sera and, with the lyrics on the screen, everyone could join in. We had the best time!

Autumn Wreath Crafting
Today our residents fancied a crafting session, so that's exactly what we did! Fully embracing the season after our Harvest Festival this week, we decided to do some Autumn-themed activities.
Our residents each made a wreath that they can display in their bedrooms, complete with leaves of orange, red and yellow, that they are all very proud of. After making their wreaths, our ladies weren't ready for the session to be over so they took to drawing and see what they could come up with just using the shapes of their hands and fingers. If you look closely, you can see some cows and some piles of books drawn with this technique!
Everybody had a wonderful afternoon and can't wait to display their creations

Foodbank Donations for Harvest Festival
Residents, loved ones, friends and staff members at Edingley Lodge celebrated the Harvest Festival by creating a food hamper to donate to a local charity.
The occasion was also marked with light refreshments and decorating a themed table specifically for donations, which really helped everyone at the home get into the spirit of the festival. Food donations brought in by visitors will be gifted to our local church later on this week with the help of our residents!
Thank you to all our lovely ladies who got involved and helped but their stamp on our autumnal festival!

Joint birthday celebrations
Some friends both celebrated reaching their 98th and 93rd birthdays on the same day on 3rd October. Dorothy and Jenny, residents at Edingley Lodge care home in Newark met at Edingley Lodge back in May 2023 when they both moved in to the care home after it re-opened following a full refurbishment. Dorothy was the first official resident, with Jenny following only a couple of weeks later, and the two became friends and have been pals since.
The home held a combined surprised birthday party for the friends and there was a homemade birthday cake for each of them and a huge celebration in honour of their coincidental birthdays.
